TLR but we have family both retirement age and with young age in Pensacola. The young family are unhappy with the state politics and are active at the local level and in supplementing their own kids' education, but generally speaking love the area and quality of life.

The first open house I saw in FL, the realtor lived 3 blocks away from me in NW DC. First upscale date night? Chef is from DC. Unfortunately they are all here, and they are not the best. |
Del Ray or Boca |
Or you could have a Supreme Court Justice who is hell bent on taking away your freedom as your neighbor. Or you could live in your little gated/guarded slice of paradise where no one cares who you had to sell your soul to so that you could afford your piece of the pie. |
The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is the red headed step child of the Mayo brand. Its focus is research and the healthcare is very subpar. They regularly become unavailable to pts and follow up with a letter stating they refuse to treat them. It is known by locals as a place to stay away from. There are other much safer options in the area. |
40a or St. John’s county |
It’s lovely in Atlantic. The mayo v,ionic has been a lifesaver (literally) for retired family members in Atlantic Beach. |
I am the age of OP and we have a second home in Pelican Bay just north of Naples. I love it, and could easily live there year around. Everyone older than 60 seems to be from the midwest but the remote workers relocating are largely from the northeast. I'd also look in Sarasota. |
So many good places to move to in FL OP why not take a tour trip and visit the top 3-5. Its such a big state with a lot of great places to offer. |
GAH! NO NO NO NO NO NO. Gulf Coast of FL is for Midwesterners. East Coast is for DC, NY, NJ and NE people. Get thee to Boca or Lauderdale and stay there. Please don't f*ck up the last nice thing that we have left. |
Totally ridiculous. Lots of people in Sarasota and also the Tampa/St. Pete area from NY NJ and other NE states plus Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan. Only three of those are considered midwest. |
Do you know anything about the history of the area? Flagler, the railroads, etc.? Gulf Coast has traditionally been Midwestern (as a direct byproduct of this history), which has given it a unique character. Don’t eff it up. (See what’s happened to Naples over the last 30 years). |
You'd probably like Boca for more intense, NE type people. Miami would be a total shock culturally, and Broward is mostly too chill. |
I guess according to you I already effed it up by moving here from NoVa. Sorry! I'm not talking about traditions, I'm talking about who actually lives here. |
I suggest finding a Midwestern mentor (a nice Minnesotan, perhaps) to show you the ropes. |
