This is so worth doing- this year, I'm going to spend the time reflecting on why I associate a drink with relaxation and try to change my mindset. |
We went out to a nice restaurant which had my favorite drink, white Negroni, on the cocktail menu and I resisted ordering it. We saw everyone else with cocktails and wine…and we made it (husband and I).
I’m excited to continue. I have done it in the past and the first week was always the hardest. I like the way I feel without booze. |
Me too. |
Good for you! I'm on Day 10, and I really do feel better. I wake up more rested and energized, with a much better attitude toward the day. I do have cravings -- particularly when something annoying happens. But I'm sticking to my resolve and pouring iced tea or NA wine or hot tea instead. |
I almost cracked tonight but the idea of telling the group I'm doing this with helped me resist. I also started reading The Naked Mind and it's been really helpful. |
Thanks! You too! |
Me too- glad to be reading it. |
I check in her a couple of times a day. It really does help to know I'm not alone and others are having the same issues with cravings.
Keep posting -- you're helping. ![]() |
I'm doing it for the 3rd or 4th time. I'm not normally a heavy drinker but its a good refresh. I kind of enjoy it and it makes the decision of should I have a drink an easy one. I substitute with herbal teas and sparkling water. I also like these diet sparking cranberry juice cans. I'm going to look into Kombucha. We are going out of town over MLK weekend and I'm not sure if I will give myself an exception for the trip or stay dry. I had way to much to drink on NYE so this past week has been easier. |
Whew last night was hard, but I feel amazing this morning. Realizing how many Saturday morning kid activities I attended with a headache…. |
Yup!! I always have a workout class and most Saturdays I felt like crap. Last night was tempting. We had to go to Costco and my husband picked up wine. It would have been so easy to open up but I resisted. I want it to be like every other food group. I don’t say no but I don’t want it to be regular just because. I don’t sit and gorge on cookies all evening so why do I need to do the same with alcohol? But I don’t want to deny myself for a nice dinner out or my birthday. |
I have combined dry January with also not dining out which helps greatly with the temptation to have a drink with dinner.
Cooking meals at home keeps me busy and distracted. |
I woke up at 7 am this morning and went for a morning walk. Definitely would not have done that if it weren't for Dry January. Even if I had had just one or two glasses of wine last night I would have woken up groggy and crabby and probably would have spent two hours lying in bed scrolling on my phone. |
I am taking a weekly picture of myself to compare what I look like drinking vs sober. I already look less puffy and better hydrated. |
Quit like a woman is another great resource- and she's funny! |
