Pearson needs a cut! What a ridiculous public school system. Utter laughingstock |
250,000 a year for yet another shi**show |
Don’t feel too bad…balanced literacy lobby will water this curriculum down. MCPS ALWAYS finds a way to fail. ALWAYS. |
Our school is one of the Benchmark 2.0 pilot schools. I really hope they offer RGR to us next year, especially if they aren't going to select a new curriculum. |
They have plenty of money for the KId's Museum or boundary studies that they will never implement or SEL-lite courses, but when buying a solid and proven curriculum, they always seem to cut corners. |
Can we factor in how this absence of an announcement is affecting teacher morale and parent buy-in to the system??
They need to at least acknowledge that things didn't go as planned (twice!) and outline what is happening or what is holding things up. |
+1. This makes me think something shady is going on. |
It seems so odd that they had teachers sign up for training already and yet aren't saying anything. The lack of communication is so very MCPS. |
The teachers aren’t saying anything because we are in the dark as well. You are correct that teachers have already had to sign up for training (Two days for the new ELA curriculum). We selected dates, but no locations are provided for the trainings (trainings are all in person this summer). They could be held anywhere within the county. |
The pandemic provided people with some things that should stick and Zoom trainings over the summer are absolutely one of the things MCPS should not be getting rid of. |
I'm going to lose my mind if I have to teach Benchmark another year. My kids hate the texts in Benchmark. I do love RGR for the phonics component though. I never felt like the phonics portion of Benchmark was effective. Swapping it out with RGR was the best decision I've seen MCPS make in my fifteen years with the system. |
I agree completely! However, all trainings for elementary teachers are in person (all locations TBD). |
I hope that schools that didn't have RGR get it next year, at the very least. |
Not sure why MCEA members didn’t push for this during negotiations. I need to get out of this district ASAP. It’s a disaster. |
