lax culture from an insider

right, duke and uva no longer have world class reputations.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was referring to the Landon grads who went to Duke and UVA, where they either embarrassed themselves on the national stage or committed murder, created a shameful legacy for their high school. That's what I meant and I'm sorry I didn't say it more directly in my previous post.

This is an ignorant comment. Landon is a perennial top high school lacrosse team and they've had several players play lacrosse at D1 schools. But saying "most starting Landon lax players are recruited for D1" is simply not true.

We are talking about the sideline behavior and sportsmanship. In which case, its psychology, group dynamics and knowledge of basic manners which is more at play. You don't need to be an elite athlete to know right from wrong, unless, it appears, you are married to one.

Actually, nasty posters, I was telling you what my husband said because I dont usually notice how the other parents are acting. I don't really care and am only interested in making sure my children are having fun and enjoying being on a team. I also don't coach a team and so only see the e-mails that DH forwards me or reads to me from the crazy dads (probably your pussy husbands who sucked at sports, okay sorry that was mean but so were your stupid assumptions above) who want to know why little Bobby didn't play more or didn't get a shot at quaterback or whatever whinny pathetic issue-of-the-day the dad or mom has.

I was never a competitive athlete, and am not very interested in "competing" in general. DH, DD, and DS, are all naturally athletic and super competitive people. That tends to come out in sports. Also, competitive people tend to notice other competitive people more than those of us who just dont care. DH notices those parents for all these reasons. I don't unless he calls it out for me to see. Also, I do think its all pretty darn hilarious and I think my laughing at those parents helps DH lighten up about it. Its got to be hard to be a coach of a team in this area and the parents who do it deserve our thanks.

So, in sum, get over yoursleves and your 1950s housewife comments. I assure you, I am more modern, smart and feminist than you will ever be, by-otch.... oooooh.... O-K, so maybe I am a little competitive but only when someone calls me a june-cleaver-doormat.

Oh, and to 11:25, I didn't say he gives advice to DD's teams, I said he keeps his mouth shut there too because he has no frame of reference (didn't play the sport or didn't play well enough to give anyone advice). You - yes you poster 11:25 - should maybe take that lessons to heart - the keeping your mouth shut part when you don't know anything.

I liked your post. Keep in mind that many on DCUM have no experience with college, HS, or competitive sports other than kiddie soccer. Nothing is worse than the coach wives who Queen bee it up. Lax is a different culture than football .

There are good guys at Landon and creeps. Same as any school. Landon does allow more school quasi-official crap than it's competitors. Check out social albums on golandon.

??
Is there any logical connection in this series of sentences?

Landon allows more "quasi official crap than its competitors"? You base this on an online photo site that is run by parents, not the school, as a clearinghouse to share photos. The most recent official event I heard of over there was it's undefeated and top ranked hockey team raising 40k for pediatric cancer research by cutting their hair.

Talk to any families with kids at Landon and they will tell you they're amazed by the breadth and depth of academic and extracurricular activities, the serious expectations for good behavior, and the attention from faculty for each individual student's social and academic progress.

Why so defensive, 8:56?
Anonymous
It's not defensive. It's setting the record straight when people like to make unfair generalizations, whether it's Landon, Sidwell, Prep or any of the schools that people seem to enjoy maligning.

Let this thread die. I'm so tired of the intra- school bashing.

Went to DS's first ever lacrosse game yesterday. He's 8.

Seriously, are all those dads who seem to be so affected by the twists and turns of the games all former lacrosse players. I wonder whether our DS has a chance in the sport as neither I nor DH has ever played.

The lacrosse dads, in my opinion are the loudest, most obnoxious group I have come across and I have kids who play football, soccer, baseball and wrestle. (Well, actually, the wrestling dads are pretty bad too.)

There are a lot of dynamics going on in lacrosse - including regional identity, school affiliations and social affinities. Hey Lacrosse Dad with your croakies, sunglasses on your baseball hat, golf course vest, shorts without socks, cell phone on your hip. Personally, I wish you would shut up and just watch the game instead of screaming at your kid and the ref the whole time. Just saying...
