Renting an apartment to be inbounds

Sure, for elementary school. The public middle schools in Arlington, western MoCo and most of Fairfax are much better than any in DCPS without question, and the high schools better than all in the public system in DC.

Well that definitely depends on where in Montgomery County and NoVa. There are certainly schools I would pick in DC over schools in those locations for middle and high school.

And then at the end of the lease, move to a more affordable area but at that point your child is already into the feeder system you want and you don't need to pay for private school.

Is that possible? Sounds crazy, I know. But curious if it would work.

Yes. The affluent do it all the time across the city. You are supposed to be legit, "domiciled" as your main residence... but wealthy wypiple (not solely, but mainly) have cheated the DCPS system for some time. Fall in line. Inequity perpetuates itself.

Except it’s DCPS policy, no cheating needed…

DCPS policy is that it is where you live. If you are living in the rented apartment - not just using it as a "PO BOX" it is within the DCPS guidance.
But if you are not living there - sleeping there at least 4 nights a week - then you are committing a fraud.

That’s not what the OP asked. OP asked if they could move OOB at the end of the lease. That is what’s allowed under DCPS policy. Why comment if you can’t bother to read the thread?

No. It's "primary residence," in laymens terms (or domiciled in legal terms). It's so people won't use their grandparents' address and say they live there. You also can't use ownership, ironically, to prove you are in a zone. It's funny that you don't see even if it were, technically, within the rules, how this is unethical or inequitable at best. Nothing I write here will stop it... It is what it is.

You are coming up with your own scenario to get upset over. The OP asked "But could you rent an apartment inbounds for a NW elementary school that you would love to get your kid into. And then at the end of the lease, move to a more affordable area but at that point your child is already into the feeder system you want and you don't need to pay for private school." That is what the last 8 pages of this thread have discussed, not primary residency or using someone else's residence. Seriously catch up or just let it go.

OP’s scenario is within the rules. The rules are stupid. DCPS so no surprise there.
