| My reaction is that this woman must be very accustomed to cheating. It was not a required assignment, she voluntarily submitted the material to contest, from which she pick a fairly recent piece from the most prestigious institution in the country to copy—with little disguise. This reeks of confidence of being able to get away with it. Like done many times. I don’t blame Duke but it is a very bad look that she was a top student. They should really take a hard look at their values. |

Not to excuse what she did, but most people here have no clue about her. She is a Pakistani Hindu. Do any of you know what that means? | A lot of people have stressful upbringings and still know the difference between right and wrong. She is dishonest and as others mentioned, she was savvy enough to hire a PR firm to help her out of this mess. |

Not defending her but it's possible that she didn't think of it as plagiarism. Other countries don't have the same concept of plagiarism and copyright we do.
I've seen plenty of Indian movies that are word-for-word copies of American movies. |

| The tuition for said school is $1400 a year. She may be upper or middle class in Pakistan but for the USA she is definitely from a low income background |
