Why is Biden extending the student loan repayment pause?

Do the people pushing forgiveness realize how much that screws with people’s decision making? As someone with a very large balance the idea that I’d scrimp to pay off my loans and then they’d institute forgiveness basically makes it an impossible decision. I simply can’t take the risk. So I sit on my loans and keep paying interest.

I wouldn't assume your high balance will be forgiven especially if you make high income. If that's the case then invest your student loan "payment" and pay off your loans when you have enough.

If you are eligible for PSLF then different story, ride it out because the pause on payments is likely to go on for years.

Im not sure its going to work. Young voters who carry the bulk of the loans are generally apathetic in midterm elections.

Its just going to be one of those democratic policies where they piss away large sums of money with no real return in votes (i.e American rescue plan/child tax credit).

That's why Biden is handholding the Millennial and GenZ voters with a forbearance that will "end" before midterms. He gets to remind them that payments start if they don't vote.

Wow, what a chump I am for being a responsible adult, using every single bonus and tax return I ever got, and all extra windfalls on top of paying extra over 14 years to pay off my $80k in loans like a responsible adult who lives up to a contract they signed.

What idiot pays their bills their bills on time in the US of A? Just demand the govt give you everything for free. Can I at least get my money back that I paid off? How is it fair at all to anyone who threw their money down the drain paying their bills if other people will get them for free because they didn't want to pay?
