What's Cornell's acceptance rate this year? They are not disclosing, but most likely 8-9% range The stats are in the decision letter. Closer to 4-5%. |
Somewhat similar for DD's BFF: 4.0 u/w GPA in most rigorous classes, 1580 SAT, 2 800 SAT subject tests. No APs offered at school (see sundry threads on why rigorous independents do not offer APs). Good ECs, HS athlete/captain. Great writer. Full pay. WLed @ Cornell, Duke, Harvard. Rejected @ Brown, Northwestern, Penn and Tufts. Most likely UVA or WashU. Love this kid. Also hard to see when a couple kids in @ a few of the schools are enrolled in less rigorous classes, but do have connections. |
Bet these kids wished they actually had fun in high school |
Your son had a 14th choice? |
Wow, posters are pretty awful. Pay no mind. These kids will end up doing great things. UNC is amazing as is Wash U. Not sure where the other kid is going, but hope it is somewhere he is excited about. |
Did he really apply to all ivies? I didn’t even realize Yale had a CS program. Hopefully he is going to study CS at a higher ranked school for that major. |

I say this gently, but did you look at Naviance? You DS sounds amazing, but his GPA seems low tbh. Maybe your DS is at a private, where grading is generally tougher and GPAs are definitely lower. My kid had a 4.5wGPA at good MCPS HS, but that wasn't remotely competitive for an Ivy (or many other top schools.) |
Believe me - they have. I don't think either DD or her friend would say that HS has been all work and no play. They are out nearly every Friday/Saturday night. They have a large group of friends, so there is always something going on. BFF has a nice boyfriend. They are not kids who needed to study every minute to nail these stats. |
Blair magnet. 3.98/4.85, 1560. National and regional awards in speaking, theatre, music performance and music composition. State orchestra, decent service, NMF. Pro theatre credits. 5s on APs. Advanced math track. Thanks, All, for the love. So happy for my hardworking kid. She never gave up, and I think it was updates of awards sent in March that clinched it for her. (2 days later, she had a bunch of FA docs downloaded in her portal for both Brown and Dartmouth). We have a busy couple of weeks. She is considering everything. |
Wow! Congrats! Maybe we'll see each other at some upcoming events! |
| I never hear of anyone getting into Princeton. Not here or real life. Who goes to Princeton? |
Who cares? Congrats!!! |
At least you got WL, my DS is the same same as yours with national awards and incredible ECs and rejected by them. |
This is not my DC, but DC's BF. I hope your DS has some choices - that sounds very tough. |
