Tell me about Whitman

There are students who identify as gang members, sell drugs, carry weapons and post all of this on Instagram. Thanks. So it's a tOy that requires protective gear and looks just like a real gun. What are the consequences for a student who brings one of those in?

Do kids harass teachers about grades all the time?

No, their parents do. Or so DCUM assures me.

No wonder 25% to 30% of the parents in the Whitman district send their kids to private schools.

Many do so for status, but yes some do because they value private over public.

I'm one of those parents. I pulled my kids out after elementary school, and before the pandemic. I don't think every private school is better than every public school, or that there's one right choice for all children, but regardless, MCPS was a mess even back then, and we wanted out of the whole system, not Pyle or Whitman in particular.

I think it depends on the parents mostly. Some expect the school system to raise their kids while others who take an active role int heir children's lives seem to do better in public.

That's not at all defensive. One doesn't have much to do with the other. I wasn't a different parent before or after; I simply had the ability to pay for private school when I moved them. (And yes, I was involved before and after as a parent.)

I think it's a mixed bag, like any school. There are some super bright kids who are doing all manner of crazy challenging ECs, there are some duds who vape in the bathrooms. There are some amazing teachers who challenge the curriculum and bring perspective to their subjects and there are others who are lazily going through the motions counting their paychecks and crossing off the days til Summer vacation.

You make the best of it, or you don't.

That is just absurd. I am sure you are a troll. There are definitely drugs there, tell me one high school including private that doesn't. Gang members, I have 2 kids there, never heard this. There will always be Whitman bashing. If you all hate it so much, send your kids to another school, we could use the extra room.
