Yea that’s what we want of course. Who wouldn’t want an advanced diploma?

It really doesn't matter if you get standard vs. advanced. Advanced is just what you'd generally get if you are on a college prep path, e.g. the core classes all 4 years, foreign language, etc.

But the "sequential electives" thing is actually part of both the standard and advanced:

Most kids are on a college prep path and would want advanced.

Do sequential elective have to be taken in consecutive years?

For instance, if my child takes intro to marketing in 9th and then wants to try accounting in 10th, can he go back to the marketing sequence and take sports and entertainment marketing in 11th and count that as his sequential elective?

My kids' sequential electives were in 9th grade (Info Systems) and 12th grade (Advanced Info Systems). No issues.

The Engineering course progression is what my DC is doing for this requirement. It actually has weighted classes like HN or AP in 11 and 12th grade. It can be overlooked since they are listed in the CTE section of the course catalog and those on the college track don't always consider those courses.

Does leadership/sga for two years count as sequential elective ?

Why? No one cares about advanced vs. standard the day after graduation. Some kids may prefer to pick up an extra AP science class or an extra language class or AP stat in addition to their regular math class rather than taking photography II

The advanced shows rigor for competitive colleges. If your kid is full pay anywhere including out of state then yeah, I guess you could do standard. If your kid wants to go to UVA or W&M, and might need merit aid you need advanced.

The advanced has the foreign language requirement. All the good schools want to see that.

Do you know what colleges require? They want to see foreign language. It was my understanding that you don’t need foreign language with a standard diploma. That will ruin your chances for college at many places.

You don't get an advanced diploma until graduation. Colleges don't know of care about the designation- they look at the course work taken. You can easily construct and advanced diploma sequence that would get laughed at by any half decent college and a non-advanced sequence that shows more than enough rigor for any school.

OK. Do they care about sequential electives other than foreign languages? Does studio art II really look better than an AP art history or AP Stat or AP Environmental Science or AP Spanish lit in addition AP Spanish language? All of those are options that could be taken in the same elective slot. All are more rigorous classes and all offer a GPA bump
