Blair magnet

Anecdotally, I have heard of kids not wanting to do that commute to SS for another 4 years. The call of the home high school that is only 5 minutes away and with old friends from ES seems very alluring.

Does anybody who have been to TPMS but decided to forego magnet HS have any regrets?

My freshman went to TPMS and is very happy at Blair. He estimated 35-40 attending this year from the TPMS magnet.

A big number from Frost as well.

What do you mean by “Big number”? 10? 30? Why would a “big number” come from Frost?

Because, many from Frost would have been TPMS-qualified but didn't get in there due to the quotas/capacity.

Why? And how many?

Around 10 from Frost from what the faces and names I can recognize, so probably a little bit more than that. I also know quite some Churchill and Whitman kids chose RM or home HS eventually, but Frost kids more leaning toward Blair in general if offered a seat.

Ok. That hardly sounds like a big number but I guess it’s a decent number from one school.

It's mostly a reflection of who applies more than anything.

With only about 100 kids 10% seems pretty big to me. The other middle schools we know about seem to have only sent 1-3 kids.

This happened at Cabin John, Hoover, Pyle too.

If they start the lottery process for Blair, then it’d be very obvious with the college admission data and high school competition results that the county’s magnet program is ruined.

There’s no indication that this is even a remote consideration so stop speculating. It’s not helpful. Nor is it certain that a different selection process would lead to radically different outcomes.

There's more interest from some schools than others.

When they redid the process in 2018, many claimed it was doomed, but all indications are it's stronger than ever.

Wooton and Churchill are amongst the farthest commutes to Blair. Why would Blair attract so many from the farthest sections of the area?? Both of these schools are very strong, academically.

If that's what you need to tell yourself then sure.
