| thinking about a fiberglass pool for the backyard, trying to get some costs for people who recently had one constructed. Thank you. |

I don't know about fiberglass pricing, but we are about 3/4 of the way through construction on a concrete (gunite) pool. We will end up somewhere around $225K with a substantial deck/seating area, several retaining walls and landscaping included in that figure.
Just be warned, it is a long process. We started planning last summer, construction started in early January and it should be complete in the next month or so, so we'll use it most of this summer. And I feel lucky that we're getting it in this year -- some of the contractors we considered last year were already booked through 2023. |

We just put in a fiberglass pool in Loudoun. It was about 150K total in the end - it is a LARGE pool with landscaping. But took us 18 months start to finish. |

I was doing pool research and wanted a fiberglass pool.
One of the contractors I had come out to give me estimate told me that they don't install fiber glass pool in this area because they don't withstand the cold winter climate. Suggested we go the concrete route. We did not install pool though, we don't love our house enough to put $100k + into it |

Interesting. I have known lots of people do fiberglass and they have no issues. Have had one friend have significant issues with concrete. I think you have to go to a pool company that just does fiberglass. It is an entirely different process. |

Wasn't there a post about this last week????
Why don't people search. |
WTH? Granted I live in AZ, where everyone has a backyard pool, so maybe that makes things a little cheaper, but 225? that's freaking insane. My neighbor just put in a huge pool (they're all gunite here) with the top of line pebbletec-type interior, large travertine deck, turf in some areas, firepit, full landscaping (1/3 acre) for $85k. They decided against the bbq for $15K. My sister is working on a similar project with a owner-contractor business and will be in about $60k. Like your experience it's running about 8 months from start to finish with several months backup. I know this has nothing to do with the OP, I'm just flabbergasted! |
you took time to post, get over it, let people answer |
| fiberglass is cheaper, no resurfacing, holds heat better. the main reason to get concrete is if you want a fancy shape |
Who is your pool builder? |
Everything is more expensive in the DC area than in AZ. |
Things are expensive here, plus there are few companies that do it. We had one put in for $150-200k (included a lot of landscaping, I forget exact number) and for the pebbletec, there are no installers in this area at all. They sent some guys down from Philly and put them up in a hotel. Then there was the case of Maryland Pools a few years ago: https://www.wbaltv.com/article/maryland-pool-customers-left-with-unfinished-work-after-company-files-for-bankruptcy/6936075 Doing so badly the owner committed suicide and a bunch of customers left with half-finished pools. Towards the end, it was like a ponzi scheme. They'd take a deposit, do a few days' of work, then never come back and move on to the next sucker. |
| Check out River Pools for fiberglass pools in the area. |
| We recently did a fiberglass pool at DE beach and spent about $70k - that does not include landscaping or hardscaping. Fiberglass pools are (like everything else) very backordered right now. |
