Smaller fertility clinic

Are there others in the DMV area besides Dominion, SGF, GW, Johns Hopkins? I've seen a couple mentions of "smaller clinics" but trying to find out what those are.

We were given a downright sales pitch at SGF and I'm so turned off and want a second opinion. I hate to say I don't trust them, because I'm truly one to trust doctors and follow what they say to a T, but I just had a bad gut feeling after our appointment.

If you didn't like the RE you saw at SGFC then see another one. I have two kids from SGFC and had several friends who went there as well to the same RE and we all got different recommendations tailored to our situations. We all managed to have kids and I was the only one out of the four of us recommended IVF. All of us had kids, all had totally different treatment plans.

SGFC is successful in part because they are large. They have a successful lab because it's also large enough to have perfected the process as much as that is possible. There's no such thing as a single RE practice with his or her own embryology lab in the back office. The size is actually linked to their success rates. That said though they have a lot of REs and a lot of offices, so if you didn't like one, go see another. I went to the Rockville office and had a very positive experience. I did some monitoring in the DC office because it was convenient to my work but did like the Rockville staff better (that was where my RE was based and where my transfers happened).

I got the same awful factory feel from SG. I also hated how aggressive their billing dept was before I had even signed up. It delivery used car sales. I was happy at both Columbia and CCRM. Remember it pretty much all comes down to the lab so I’d be leery of small, small volume. Look at their stats closely

One more issue with smaller clinics is that their schedule does not always align with what is most beneficial to you. For instance, your egg retrieval may be pushed up or pushed back a day because the Dr doesn't want to do them on weekends. At SGF, you won't have that issue, they do everything IVF related everyday, including holidays, apart from when the lab is closed for two weeks around christmas.

CCRM is small and local.

Generation Next in NYC. Not local but maybe the best lab i’ve ever encountered and excellent and personal out of the box thinking. State of the art office/facility as well

Columbia Fertility Associates. I had Dr Sacks and he was kind and personable. Not fancy but great doctors.

My doctor from my small clinic is no longer on her own but has joined a larger clinic now. But I just want to chime in that it was wonderful using a small clinic. It was one doctor and I basically picked her for location (I drove by her office on my way to work). I could stop in on my way to work which was super convenient when I needed regular morning monitoring. She had one nurse who was amazing and because she's the only one, she knew all the patients really well. There are definitely upsides to a larger clinic as people have mentioned upthread but there's positives to the small clinic too.

Her name was Dr. Durso and she actually works for Shady Grove now. LOL! But in the past she was working independently.
