Tipping for pick up from a pick up type restaurant

Anonymous
My DH a doesn’t tip on take out from restaurants that mainly serve as take away-pizza hut counter only ( no tables inside) and bbq joints or like cava or chipotle.

I have always thought to do 10 percent for take away but decided not to tip the last time I picked up from the BBQ place. Do you usually tip take away if it’s not a nicer sit down restaurant? I picked up the food so really agree it’s not necessary to tip ffor this.

Somebody has to package the food for you to take it away. So I tip.

I tip 10% on a pick-up order, because I only order from my favorite restaurants, and I want to make a gesture.

But this is not a hill to die on, and as I said in another thread recently about a pizza delivery, I wish food industry employees did not depend so much on tips. They should provide decent service regardless of the tip or absence thereof. I prefer to pay more for my food.

I would not tip at Pizza Hut unless I got unusually good service, and then I'd tip in cash directly. But at a local restaurant, I generally tip 10-15% for pick up. It's also what I tip if I'm just getting coffee, for instance. I do it for three reasons:

1) I've worked in food service, the jobs are hard and tips are nice
2) I think tipping regularly probably nets me better and nicer service
3) I want to support the business so it will stick around

I don’t tip at those places either.

I think this is true when you are ordering from a restaurant with table service...but at a takeout only place the workers are not paid a servers wage.

Isn’t that the kitchen staff who doesn’t get the tips?

0-10%. Depends on the situation.

What about for a $2.50 cup of drip coffee? I tipped .50 this morning but the way the cashier acted I would hav even better off leaving zero. The barista filled my coffee order too, not the cashier.

I pick up so I don't have to tip. It cost me gas to go there.

Never. No reason to show appreciation for good service when there is no service.
