I check it, and it is a bit red. She often does not wipe it or wipe the wrong direction. She drinks okay amount of water, but her urine is quite yellow. She is completely potty trained. Should I wash her underwear with mild soap or is that uti or needs some medicated cream? Now, I put some aquaphor on it.
Please teach grab toilet paper tip ( either too much or a tiny piece) and wiping tips. She also does not wipe after poo. |
| UTIs are quite common if they are constipated. |
| We have dealt with it. In addition to reminding her to wipe front to back, I try to limit soap exposure as muchas possible. So I will do an extra rinse on the laundry, only shampoo her hair every other night at the end of the bath (so she doesn’t sit in soapy water), and let her air dry after her bath. If it’s really bad, I sometimes use diaper cream at night. It is am ongoing issue, but this seems to help. |
| Bath every night for while. Epsom salt a plus. Mild soap like Dove for 1st night to clean out. Air out no bottoms when sleeping for few days. I'd take her to pedi too for urine culture. Just pee in doctor cup. |
Wiping wrong direction can cause a UTI. |
| This happens every so often with my daughter. What has helped is checking when she wipes and lending a hand if needed; using baby wipes before and after changing into a pull-up for nap and overnight; and limiting bubbles and soap in the bath to just a few days a week as that can cause irritation. |

Sit cross cross applesauce in the bath in warm water for 10 minutes. Nothing added to the water. No soap to clean the vulva.
Vaseline or aqua for is fine to treat the rash. If she will sleep without underwear in a nightgown or loose pants that’s great too. |
| Surface irritation is totally common until they get proficient at wiping. Regular diaper cream and baby powder at night under pajama bottoms only (no undies), or during the day when at home. Keep it clean, sooth and protect the skin, and air it out. |
| OP here. Thank you for the tips. She loves soapy bubble bath, and I didn't know that I made mistake to use soap to clean her vulva once in a while. I thought because her vulva is dirty, that's why I use kid friendly body soap to wash it like a second. I have been teaching her to use toilet paper just to tap tap the vulva instead of wiping because she used to wipe so rough that it was so red. And, she does not know how to grab toilet paper from roller, either too much to clog the toilet or too little can't do anything with it. |
| We had to stop using (kid friendly) bubble bath after realizing it was irritating my daughter. Plenty of soap-free tub time has actually been better than soapy bubbles. |
| Can find more natural bubble baths, usually the fragrances and additives in them are what irritates the body. |
| Follow bubble bath time with a a nice rinse with clean water too, really make sure you get all the soap off and make sure to dry the area very well. |
| Is she using Pull-Ups at night? Nighttime Pull-Ups (any brand) gave my DD more diaper rash than diapers. |
The buy at home strips are pretty much the same, the problem is catching the pee midstream. My DD had a UTI, I noticed blood in her pee. Got her an antibiotic and it went away. I had to teach her better wiping habits. A bath with 1/4 cup white vinegar (google the amount, it's been a while) for a few nights. We also do a daily multivitamin with a probiotic to help keep her regular poops. No issues anymore. |
I don't use soap on my own vagina unless I have my period, and even then super carefully. |
