Serious case of senioritis

Anonymous
Talk me off the ledge. Any other seniors (with acceptances) grinding to an academic halt? I do not think he's in danger of having his offer rescinded, but it is infuriating to watch this strong B student getting mid and low Cs because he's just stopped doing stuff. How much to push? Does it matter? Do I fill some of his final weeks at home with conflict over grades that, ultimately, aren't important? Anyone else having this problem?

(If you are going to post telling me a. this is my fault because I didn't parent him correctly or b. this is clearly an indication he's not ready for college and I should enroll him in a trade school instead, kindly pound sand.)

he is normal and so are you, and he is going to enjoy college and have a great time.

refreshing to hear form a parent of a b student, you are a rare breed -everyone around here is a 4.0 1600 kid.

It's normal. I went from salutatorian to straight Cs because I was done caring. My college did not bat an eye. If you're worried about him being able to care again, I got straight As freshman year of college.

Hi. I try to post here often and be upfront with his very normal stats for just this reason.

Thank you for this. Did your parents completely freak out? Can I text your mom for advice on how to cope?

That "maintain academic standing" language has me a little worried too. Hopefully just something all parents feel. My a/a- kid is totally slacking now. Will probably round out the year with B-

Is that going to get a good offer rescinded? Or is that normal seniorities??

HI. I'm OP. From what I've been able to learn from Googling, rescinding is very rare and usually for complete academic collapse. The exception seems to be UC system schools that require them to maintain a certain GPA.

Same boat! Can barely get him to school! Not much time left… it’ll be ok!

Me too! 3.3/30 ACT kid doing just fine, other than current senior slump which also is fine

Please don't worry OP.

My kid is struggling right now and has missed a lot of school this quarter for health reasons. Her very experienced guidance counselor told me she has never seen a college rescind admissions over grades. She has only seen problems when a kid has a serious discipline issue or doesn't graduate for some reason.

I'm OP. I feel like there should be two DCUM College boards - one for high flying kids and one for the rest of us.

So good to hear. Thanks! I hope your daughter feels better soon.

If it makes any of you feel better, I crashed and burned my senior year and there were no repercussions. The university I went to never asked - I did have somewhat legit reasons as my mom became extremely ill and I had to take care of the family. But nobody asked. I went from straight As to barely passing my 7 AP classes my senior year.
