I have had this on my calendar for over a month because I love Elle Fanning in The Great. I found the news stories to be so captivating while it happened. First you think, there's NO WAY this girl is responsible for his death, then you get to read the texts and by the end you think, she definitely is responsible! Now it's a TV show with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I am so excited to watch it!
The true story of Michelle Carter's "texting-suicide" case, exploring her relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events leading up to his death, and, later, her conviction of involuntary manslaughter. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_girl_from_plainville |
| It got an excellent review in the NYT...I am looking forward to watching it. |
| Thanks for the suggestion! |
| Thank you! |
| Is there more to the story than what the media covered? |
| Elle Fanning is such an excellent actress. |

I watched the first episode. I am not thrilled about where it starts the story - the morning after he dies. I want to see more of their relationship, but that may be tough because it wasn't really in person. However, there is an actor for Conrad so I guess he shows up.
I find the whole thing so strange. Is she crazy? Why did she do this? They dated for a while, according to their Wiki they talked from 2012 and he died in 2014. Are the friends who showed up to comfort her the popular kids and she did this to get in with them? |
Keep watching |
I loved loved loved what I've watched so far, and I can't believe that's Elle Fanning! I only realized it when I came here. I was thinking what a fabulous actress they'd found. How did she grow up so quickly?!

| Chloe Sevigny is amazing at Conrad's mom. I can't stop thinking about her grief. |

Watch the HBO special doc on this. It is freaking fascinating.
After part 1, you're like, what a POS lock her up. After part 2, you almost think she's blameless. |
| I don’t know if I’m multi-exclamation point excited about this show. It’s a really sad story all around. I’m two episodes in. Elle’s resemblance to Michelle is uncanny. |
| Having watched the documentary I find this show tedious. |
I went ahead and watched this. I do not think she is guilty. The judge really only found her guilty because she told Conrad to "get back in". But that was sent in a text to a friend MONTHS after his death. The prosecutor made her out like a liar, yet that one line, which is practically hearsay, put her in jail. What she did was immoral but I can't admit she broke a law. There isn't irrefutable evidence of that. |
Agree! I would not have recognized her if I had not seen her talking about the show on Kelly+ Ryan. |
