What is your hair care routine?

And how long does it take?

Like wash routine? I have wavy/curly hair so I wash and condition it every two to four days then style with gel and a diffuser. In between I’ll try to refresh the curls with water and product, or wear it brushed out, or go with a bun.

I work out at the gym during the work week in the morning. I rinse and then apply a conditioner. Some mornings, I just add a little bit of product and go. And some days I blow it out, which takes about 5 minutes. I have thick, curly hair that’s shoulder length. On the weekends, I’ll use shampoo at home.

Modified curly girl method for shoulder length waves. Daily or every-other-day wash with curl friendly products, leave in, and apply a curling cream with a wide tooth comb. Then I generally air dry (about 40 minutes) and do a quick shake and scrunch to get out any cast.

At night, if I'm planning to get a second day out of my wash, I'll spray with leave in and put it up on top of my head. In the morning shower with it still up. I don't wash it but I let it get a little wet. Then comb it and scrunch it and let it dry. Since it's not totally wet, it generally takes 20 minutes this time. Shake and scrunch out any lingering cast, but I rarely get anything second day.

It's a little bit fussy but about as close as I can get to wash-and-wear. I spring for good quality cuts from someone who specializes in curly/wavy hair twice a year and it's worth it -- she knows how to remove some of the weight and bulk using techniques that dry cutting. I used to go to stylists who didn't focus on textured hair and for a long time I didn't realize that they were screwing me over, using thinning sheers and cutting my hair while it was sopping wet so they had no idea how to work with the wave. Getting proper cuts from someone who understands my hair is the most important part of my hair routine. I don't spend a lot on products (all drugstore brands) or tools. But I pay around $200 a cut. Worth every penny.

Oh and I guess this takes about an hour to an hour and a half between washing, styling, time spent “plopped” with a t shirt or microfiber towel, and diffusing.

Shampoo and conditioner: 5 min
Mousse, revlon thingy, hair spray: 9 minutes

Shampoo and conditioner every morning in the shower. Put in pony tail and let it dry naturally. Done. I have fine straight hair.

Another curly girl here, condition daily, wash 2-3 times a week. On wash days it takes a little longer in the shower. I apply gel before I get out of the shower, wrap/plop in a micro-fiber towel, and get on with getting dressed and ready. Leave our house with a wet head that is mostly dry by the time I get to the office. Yes, even in winter. I work in a casual, nonprofit office, no one cares

Shampoo in the shower ever night after exercise. Re-wet in the morning because I have short hair and severe bedhead. Apply a box of dye every 2 months or so.

Keratin treatment about every three months

Otherwise I’m a wash blow dry ponytail type of person. I don’t need to color my hair which helps with the low maintenance.

I envy the low-maintenance routines. I have come to terms with the fact that my super thick curly hair is high maintenance, since its natural state is frizzy and poofy. I wash and condition every 5-6 days, use expensive shampoo, conditioner and 3 different styling products, scrunch with a microfiber towel and air dry for at least 6 hours until it gets crunchy. (I could use a difffuser, but haven't had as good results that way.) Then I scrunch out the crunch to get soft curls and sleep with my hair wrapped on top of my head. The good news it it lasts several days. I usually end up pulling it back the last couple days before I wash again. I also get my roots colored frequently and get pricy curly haircuts every few months.

Shampoo and condition 2-3 times a week, blow dry with a round brush, spray with texture product. Olaplex 2 2-3x a month for a couple of hours. Balayage 1-2x a year.
