I’m starting to have more days in the office, I need to upgrade my office wardrobe after working at home for the past two years.
I would describe my office vibe as a “show-offy business casual”, meaning not as formal as suits but looking nice but not a cocktail party. I’m 5’5, apple shaped and unfortunately waist bigger than top or bottom. 140lbs, usually a size 8. Where would you go with 90 minutes to shop in the mall? I’m thinking Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, bloomies, anything else? Also I hate the wide leg pants and midi dresses that are still in style, they do nothing for me. Mainly going for some new tops or blouses, maybe dresses. |
I'd go to the Galleria for starters, not Tyson's.
Neiman Marcus Saks Lafayette 148 Vince MaxMara Club Monaco You should definitely be able to find some nice work outfits Also try Reiss online. |
Op here. I think that most of those stores are out of my budget. |
I'd head to Uniqulo if you are budget-conscious. They have some very classic workwear styles. Loft may work for you, too. |
I’m not that budget conscious. I can pay Ann Taylor full price , some nicer Nordstrom work brands, and a few hundred dollars for a nice blazer or shoes. But there’s a big difference between Neiman Marcus and Uniqlo. |
I shop on eBay. I know what size I wear in different brands and have gotten some excellent work clothes there. For instance, I bought an almost new DVF wool blend sheath dress for under $20. I also to to TJ max or Marshall’s for fun tops.
I am a big fan of buying and then taking to the tailor. For instance, I almost always ask the tailor to cut the pockets out in front of my pants (so you can’t see the outline) then sew them closed. The waist and the length can be tailored to fit. |
Macy’s - I like the Calvin Klein suit separates and work dresses |
Thanks. I know about online shopping options. Trying to try on clothes tomorrow. Where should I go in person to try things on, preferably in the huge Tyson’s mall in our area? |
And they always have great sales! |
Tyson’s has a decent Macy’s |
following |
Tysons Corner seems to have very little in the stores. Try a store like Macys. |
Great tip re cutting pockets out. I never thought of that, but honestly, how often do you use pants pockets anyway? |
Personally, I haven’t had much luck finding things in store to try on, it’s very annoying. Bloomingdales has more workwear inventory than others, at least there I’ve found things I did want to try on. Just seems like the in store inventory is increasingly sparse/cheap/casual. |
There’s a Macys in Tysons.
I’m an expert at ordering hundreds of dollars of clothes and returning 3/4 of them, I just wanted to cut out the middleman for once. |
