Atlas, August, Amari, Amani or Rumi

Haters need not respond but looking for some honest feedback on those names for a boy. We are a multicultural household but not Arab or Persian so a couple of those stop me but they are the best list we can almost sort of agree on.

I like August a lot. My DS has a friend with that name, nn Auggie.

The last three read as girls' names to me.

Atlas is fairly ridiculous but I like fairly ridiculous for middle names.

That leaves August. Kind of distinguished but also with some good nickname options.

August is on of my very favorite names.

I like Rumi.

Amari is meh, but I like it better than Amani.

I know two babies named Atlas. I think it's a terrible name. Truly terrible.

August. Great, strong name and beautiful.

I would have to stifle a laugh if anyone told me their baby’s name was Atlas!!

Amani is a girl's name. Rumi... you better really love the poet.

I would go with Augustus over August, which also has a feminine flare to me.

Atlas is a big name to live up to, I wouldn't name my kid that.

I think you guys should continue your name search.

I really like amari.

I really like August!

Not sure if you mind, but Amani is used more for girls than boys in the U.S. (last year is was #660 for girls but not in the top 1000 names for boys).

Atlas has gotten rather popular surprisingly fast (now #189, up from #779 in 2013 and not in the top 1000 before that).

One of Beyonce's daughters is named Rumi. I know the poet was a man but there's a good chance that your kid's generation may be more likely to think of Rumi Carter than him.

Atlas is laughable, OP. Please take that off your list immediately.

August is a great name. The others are just okay.

My vote is for August. Mandy Moore named her son that and calls him Gus, which I think is cute. I feel a little sheepish for knowing that.

I asked my (white) teenage sons which one they liked best. FWIW, they both think Amari is the height of cool and they may come to blows over who gets to use it for one of my future grandsons, lol.
