Have you ever called a restaurant and asked for them to adjust the bill after the meal?

I believe that I was overcharged on a split bill. I would like to call the restaurant and ask about it but don't have the receipt. Has anyone ever called and asked to speak to the GM about an overcharge? I feel helpless and like I was taken advantage of. Thanks.

The right time to look at the bill before you pay it. That said, how do you feel you were taken advantage of? I can’t tell if you feel you were taken advantage of by the restaurant or by the other members of your party. What is it you are hoping to ask the restaurant?

But to answer your direct question, no, I have never done this.

No, the time to address these issues is at the restaurant when you receive the bill.

What’s the basis for your belief you were overcharged? It doesn’t sound like you can prove anything, so you’re basically asking for a refund of an unspecified amount without any substantiation.

How do you know you were overcharged if you don't have the receipt?

OP here. I agree that it would have been best to address this in the restaurant at the time but that didn't happen. I feel the restaurant may have overcharged us and we didn't catch it at the time. I'm hoping to call and ask about the charges but have never done so before. I've also never paid a bill this large and wouldn't be calling if I didn't think the overcharge was insignificant.

In that case, I recommend you go in person to the restaurant. They should be able to pull up your bill and take a look with you. Restaurants are not set up to handle phone calls.

I've never done this. I guess I can imagine doing this if I went out for an expensive meal and it seemed as if they charged both parties full price rather than splitting. Did you pay on a credit card? If you paid cash, I would drop it. Is this a situation where you can check in with your dining partner to see what they think?

Ask the person you split the bill with to text you a copy of the bill. I'd then go in or call during NON rush hours and ask to speak with a manager and then ask them to help you sort it out. Maybe they charged you more than they charged your friend in which case that's an issue for you to work out with your friend. Maybe you forgot tax or something.

I would go in person with the credit card that you used to pay.

I have once called a restaurant about a charge, but that's because there was an obvious error... bill was run once with tip and once with tip instead of the first transaction being provisional/cancelled or the second being tip only.

If you don't have the receipt I don't think there's much that will happen.

Even if she had the receipt what would happen after the fact? She saw the receipt when she paid and didn’t object. So now after the restaurant would have to believe she didn’t order the items on the receipt?

I have been bamboozled into paying a tip twice. It is included on the bill and the receipt has a line saying tip so I add another 20% not realizing it was already on the bill. Restaurant said no.

Yes, because we realized that we forgot to tip, so we called and asked to add it.

Yes, and it was taken care of by phone. Called because we were charged an extra meal, but I did have the itemized receipt.
