Donation expectations at "small" publics like Ross/Eaton/Mann/Hyde-Addison/Key?

Anonymous
DS attends one of these small (sub-400 students) NWDC public elementary schools that depends heavily on parent participation to fund "extras" like two teachers in most classrooms, etc. What is the annual parent donation expectation at these schools, and what donation would be above & beyond to show gratitude? I have heard from several friends that $2k might be the standard/expectation, but wanted to poll DCUM.

At one of those pre-pandemic. 2,500/kid

I would plan on at least $1000 per kid. More if you can swing it.

Gross. Tell me more how there isn't systemic racism and inequity in DC.

This is ridiculous. It leads to inequity.

If you want your school to have more money, Lobby the politicians in DC to increase funding. Don’t privately donate to your own little school.

Increased funding for central office is not going to translate into the kinds of things these PTAs spend money on. DCPS has one of the highest per pupil spending rates in the country.

How much more funding per pupil do T1 schools get?

OP here - sorry, I didn't realize there were so many previous discussions about these schools' suggested PTA donations. I have an answer.

Nowhere near enough to cover the extra needs. You're welcome to switch to a T1 if you think it's a better deal.

At our (not T1) school it’s $180 per kid. But we don’t buy extra teachers.

The answer should be "Don't" Why is it okay that the richer schools have better access to resources.

You might be better off in NOVA where they have voted in someone else who believes that there is no such thing as white privilege

The problem is that DCPS counts on the fundraising when it sets school budgets. So you can't step off of the treadmill now.

The bigger problem is there is absolutely no transparency when it comes to budgeting at DCPS, each school gets a per-pupil number but it's a complete mystery where those numbers come from. So it's impossible to even talk about things like equity and budgeting because nobody really knows.

Give it a rest. White privilege. Yawn.
