Hi! Just had my 36 week scan and everything was normal. They said he's below average (measuring 9th percentile) for limbs, which they said means "he's a short baby" (I'm 5'6 and my husband is 5'10). But I'm worried if this means something more -- a condition I should be worried about or something like that. He's measuring in 70th percentile for everything else.
Anyone else had their babies' limbs measure low? Did they turn out tall? Thank you

| These are so so in accurate. A friend was induced at 37 weeks because they thought the baby was going to have dwarfism, perfectly normal baby. It's very hard to measure. Don't worry about it at all. |
| ^^oh and I'll add, my babies were both ~5 lbs at birth and my son is now 99+ percentiles for height and weight. Birth size has little bearing. |
| I would ignore everything they say about the measurements unless an MFM sits you down and explains that there’s a problem and something you should do about it. They’re not accurate. |
| I was with a MFM and got scans frequently. Mine was consistently measuring smaller...I thought maybe she had inherited my petite frame. Well once she came out she was a glutton and went up to 98% in height by 4 months. She is now 2.5 yo and still 98%. She's the size of other girls 6-15 months older. |
+1 My "small baby" measuring at 10% was 7 lb 6 oz at birth. |
+1 Sonography is just not an exact science. |

These are inaccurate and, anyway, 9th is still VERY much within the range of normal so there is nothing to worry about here.
One of my kids measured "short"/small and one measured very "tall"...like bottom 5 percent and top 5 percent. Guess what? Both kids were the same length at birth. 20 inches, completely average.

I went to multiple MFM scans (because the stomach was so big) and they measured limbs too. DD's limbs measured 13%. I didn't really care because I'm very short, but my DH is very tall. Nope- DD was 21" tall at birth and has consistently been above 90th percentile. I'm not sure what they were measuring.
But to be fair- her stomach WAS really big and I did have a shoulder dystocia from that. Stomach pushes the shoulders out. So that part of the scan was accurate. And I did also have hydroamnios. It was like a flood when my water burst. |
no way! that's funny thank you -- feel reassured

| Thanks all - appreciate the reassurances. |
| Is dwarfism something that folks terminate for? Is is considered a fetal problem? I had not heard of that . (Hoping to conceive this year.) |

They were measuring me often because they thought my son was going to be like 10lbs and the doctor was worried.
He came out 7lbs and 21 inches |
Possibly, If combined with failure to develop organs. |
I'm the OR- I think so but this was at like 36-37 weeks. I would assume they would have found it earlier than that, like at the anatomy scan. |
