are all French Bulldogs like this?

I'm dog sitting for a friends's French bulldog. I have met this dog before and am not a fan, but spending 2 whole days with him has generated even more contempt. OMG. most.annoying.dog.EVER. He licks himself constantly. When I/we sit down to eat, he stands next to us and whimpers to get food. He snores like a furnace and what's worse, he cries and barks until you let him on the bed and then insists on sleeping RIGHT NEXT TO YOU, like up on the pillows. And he smells bad. He wouldn't stop humping my daughter so we put him in a different room and closed the door. You'd have thought this dog was being murdered the way he screamed and cried and whimpered for 45 minutes with no sign of letting up until we finally gave in and let him out. He can't walk for more than 20 minutes without his scrunched up face causing him to practically have an asthma attack...just looks so damn miserable. It probably doesn't help that I think he's not cute at all whatsoever...and French bulldogs aren't all that ethical anyway, are they? I usually love all dogs but man, I cannot find a single redeeming quality about this one. Just an annoying menace.

No, you are describing a poorly bred (breathing issues), poorly groomed (smelly), poorly trained (begging) frenchie in an environment where he's feeling insecure (whining/crying).

It's okay not to like a dog, but why did you agree to watch it?

friend's sitter backed out at the last minute.

French bulldogs are the best. You don't like dogs, just don't watch him ever. But he's the easiest - you don't have to take him running, clean up massive poops, he's not aggressive and doesn't bite. Just wants to snuggle - wow such a hardship.

I do LOVE dogs. I have two. Yes, thankfully he stopped biting last year and they had a trainer come in to get some of the aggression out! Would have never agreed if that didn't happen.

I think this answer is spot on.

I think no one should be breeding Frenchies (or any brachycephalic dog) but they are so hot and so pricey right now because they're trendy that there's even more incentive to (over)breed them. And I think often the people who pony up the money for a Frenchie are the ones who treat it more like a spoiled baby than a dog. Training is equally important for all dogs IMO, but it's a lot easier to just pick up a misbehaving little dog (assuming it's not a biter) or ignore its bad behavior.

I’ve known two French bulldogs and they both snored/breathed noisily and blasted the room with absolutely foul farts constantly.

They are f#*king ugly dogs!

I don't think they're at all cute. the one I know isn't a bad dog, per se, but I don't get the appeal either. Certainly not for $4,000!!

I don't like French bulldogs either. They're not cute, they're ungodly expensive, they have breathing issues, and they suck at being dogs. I pretend they're cute when I'm near someone who has one, but then I cringe at the fact they exist. I honestly think they should be outlawed.

you realize that a "well-bred" French bulldog does not exist, right? It's an oxymoron.

Yes. Very ugly dogs with breathing problems. It’s sad.

He can't help it. Brachycephalic breeds have unique health issues. Please be patient and gentle. A 20 minute walk is a lot for a bulldog, esp at a fast rate or when it is warm. Poor guy.

Hahah agreed with pretending they are cute when they’re with their owners.

Poor baby (the dog, not you). He sounds insecure and lonely.

None of this would bother me except the humping part. Is he neutered?
