Heading to a show at Strathmore with the family next Sunday around 3pm and looking for somewhere to eat nearby prior to the show. Kids are 7 and 5 and ideally we'd like to sit outside or in a heated pod. Any recs? |
Stella Bara at Pike and Rose. |
Try Java Nation on the Pike — nice heated outdoor tent |
Very close to Strathmore is Java Nation on Rockville Pike and the food is good but it is more of a coffee shop casual cafe vibe. You order from a counter and they bring your food. Julii in Pike and Rose has heated pods. Most of the other restaurants in Pike and Rose did not do heated tents or patios this winter. |
Black Market Bistro has a tented area and patio but they serve brunch until 2 and then re-open at 4.
If you can make it work, it is a great place and it has a kids menu. http://www.blackmarketrestaurant.com/info-contact/ |
No, the heated tent at Java Nation is waitress service |
After 4pm. Before that you order from the counter. |
The food at Java nation is surprisingly good. Two thumbs up.

OP here, many thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them all out. |
Frankly’s pizza. A bit of a drive but tasty. |
They should really re-open the Strathmore cafeteria. |
+1 I love this place. Definitely casual enough for young kids. |
Op here - I'm looking at both Java Nation and the black market option. Doesn't seem like one can make reservations at either though. We are coming from DC with our boys. The show starts at 3pm so I figure we should plan to be at the restaurant by 12:30/1pm latest. We have parking reserved at the strathmore already. Of those two, which do folks think might be best given our timing? Many thanks again for your help. |
Pike and rose. |
Java nation does not need a reservation. Call Black Market Bistro for a reservation. More than enough time at either of you are planning for 12:30 food and a 3pm show. |
