Staying in mid-town. First time in NYC for 3 out of 4 of us. Not big on steakhouse, but love sushi, pizza, Italian, delis, burgers, desserts etc. Any favorite family-friendly dinner places in Times Square to see before a Broadway show? Hit me up with recommendations.

Five Napkin Burger is a great family friendly choice. And when you are done, go to Schmackery's next door for cookies. Pretty easy walk to most Broadway shows.

That should get you started.

Anyone can Google it. I think the poster was looking for recommendations from people that visit nyc and that are actually not on the Google tourist beat.

We just went to NYC and ate at The Marshal, a small farm to table restaurant, and Tacuba Cantina, both in Hell’s Kitchen. We have 3 kids and they liked both. We also considered The Blue Dog and Anejo. Also, we walked by Becco which looked nice but no experience dining there.

You're going to Manhattan. You should expect that nothing will be family-friendly. If you want a family-friendly vacation, NYC is not the place to go to find it.

Okay, that's a little rude, but Eater is very helpful. I can't really recommend family friendly as my DCs are now young adults and were already in their teens when we moved here.

We occasionally meet folks at the Smith with a few locations around the city, including one near Lincoln Center. That place is def family friendly.

We saw tons of families with kids in NYC. Families live there just fine, and vacation there with no problem. Just bc your family can’t handle the city doesn’t mean others can’t.

OP, me and my kid enjoyed House of Joy dim sum in Chinatown. Not in TS but fun and quick for a pre-show dinner.

OK this is nuts. Sorry the city is too crazy for you. My family, including two kids under 8, love NYC and have great experiences even at restaurants without kids menus. I assume this is a troll.

I would try to get out of Times Square to eat. Restaurants there tend to be crowded and not good.

If you find places that look appealing, make a reservation. It is a good feeling to have a reservation and a plan.

Right? TS is all chains and tourist traps.

NYC is extremely family friendly - I used to live there with my 2 young kids. A few places to check out:

Black Tap - there is one on 55th Street, fun burgers and milk shakes

The Smith - one in a Lincoln Center or Midtown East

If you want great pizza and are willing to travel downtown highly recommend Lombardi’s, Rubirosa, Keste. You can also walk over the Brooklyn Bridge if the weather is nice and go to Grimaldi’s or Juliana’s.

Tacombi - good Mexican with multiple locations

Quality Italian - love the chicken Parm “pizza” but pricey

Juniors cheesecake is a tourist place, but it’s excellent for families.

Check out the restaurant row - 46th street between 8 and 9 avenues. It's chock full of restaurants, both expensive and mid-priced. Among the latter, there is a bunch of Asian places (Korean, Japanese and Thai), and I think there is a mid-range Italian place.
