Kids are middle schoolers in a private that requires a drive. I work up sick this morning and have been isolating from them. We all had negative rapid tests, but of course I don’t want to share norovirus either.
I feel really lousy, not sure how I feel about driving tomorrow. Single parent so there is no disease free adult in the house. WWYD? |
| Nope... no way. They'd stay home if I can't do the drive. |
|
No.
They are going to get it in a few days time. Rationalize that you aren't spreading it to their classmates. |
| If my kids were healthy I’d get my shit together and drive them. Wear a mask and wash your hands. |
Why would you assume this? It’s pretty easy to not spread a norovirus when you know what you’re doing. |
My shit is literally not together. It's not something I can will into existence. |
| You will probably be feeling a lot better tomorrow as most stomach flus last 24 hours or less. If the kids are fine and you’ve been careful I would let them go. |
| Absolutely yes. Unless I was flu level wiped out and was sleeping on the floor, they’d be going. If I could walk to the car, I’d be good enough to get them there. |
| Yes. Because I don’t want them home when I am sick. They go to school. |

I don’t know if the problem is you are worried about them getting sick or you can’t physically drive them.
I would not be worried about them getting sick. They rarely get my illnesses. If I can’t physically drive them, then hopefully there is a family nearby that they could car pool with, but if not, then I guess they can’t go. Mind you, I cannot even remember a time I was so ill that I couldn’t drive, except the day after surgery when I wasn’t allowed. I mean, that’s gotta be really, really sick. Missing middle school can be a hassle to make up, so getting them there would be a huge priority. |
So, have them stay home now AND ALSO when they get sick in a few days? Nope. I drove my kid to school and had to pull over on the way home to vomit. I desperately needed those 7 hours to be sick/sleep/start to recover without having to take care of a child. Also, thats just too much school to miss unnecessarily. If you wake up in the morning and truly cannot drive, and there's no other transportation, then I guess you don't have a choice but to keep them home. |
+1. Op, you'll be fine to drive by morning. You'll be over the worst of it by morning, even if you're not 100%. |
| Of course I would send them. What do you do every other time that you need transportation help op? |
Agreed. We traveled with my husband when he had norovirus (hit him on the plane, not fun) and none of us got sick. Wore masks, isolated him as soon as we got to my mom’s, and washed our hands frequently. Tested him for Covid as soon as we reached but he was neg. Touch wood, we were all fine. |
