My 2021 MB GLC 300 with less than 9000 miles is past due for service. The dealer quoted $495 for service that mainly consists of checking levels and changing the oil. My question is where do you take your Mercedes cars for service? I don't mind paying but know there must be other less costly methods of keeping on top of service, with someone who knows this brand. I would appreciate your recommendations. I live in Montgomery County Maryland. TIA

| I pay 35$ for my oil change. That seems high. |
| I pay about $100 for an oil change in my prius. Check to see if they are trying to upsell you on every single recommended service option or if they have a bare bones suggested service. |
This is OP. I pay about the same for my old Lexus at my favorite garage. Can I take my Mercedes to the same dealer? Sorry if I sound ignorant. I am kinda. I have been used to driving an old Lexus that needed minimal care. |
Any decent garage should be able to do a service on your Mercedes. Sorry that I'm no longer in the DC area so can't recommend anywhere. I get my Ford serviced at the dealership and generally pay between $50 to $60. This includes oil change, filter, topping up of fluids and tire rotation. |
Long-time MB owner here. I usually change my own oil and it can cost about $70-100 just for supplies. It takes about 8 quarts of oil, and Mercedes has special requirements on approved oils - you need to check your user's manual. It's not particularly expensive, you just have to find the right one. Even at $30 for a 5-qt jug, it usually takes about two of those jugs for an oil change, plus another $10-20 for the filter. You cannot judge the cost of an MB oil change by comparing it to a Honda or Lexus. I also change the oil myself on our Honda Odyssey, and the oil+filter ends up being about $35 there. Add in labor, I'd regard $100-$120 as a fair price for an MB oil change if you take it to an independent shop. Regarding the price you were quoted from the dealer, this sounds higher than normal. I usually pay $300 for the A service on a 4-cylinder MB when I can't find the time to do my own. Call back and ask for the price of the service with just the required items - tell them you are not interested in any of the recommended items. See what the new price comes to be. You can then call around independent MB shops and see what they quote you for the A service. |
. Thanks. This is the type feedback I was seeking. I won’t be rolling my MB up to the jiffy lube anymore than I’ll driving it through the drive through car wash yet. I will call around and check prices. Thanks again. |
| OP again. If a MB is still under warranty does having it repaired at a non authorized dealer take it out of warranty? TIA |

WTH is wrong with a car that it needs a $500 service at only 9,000 miles? What are they checking that could possibly be worn out so soon? 9,000 miles is an oil and filter, a quick glance at the coolant level, and maybe - maybe - a tire rotation. That’s it. That’s ALL.
What is MB expecting to have problems with so soon that it needs to be checked so thoroughly at 9k miles? |
Hi OP! I live in Montgomery county and need to take a 2011 Lexus for an oil change. Can you tell me the name and location of your garage that you like for your Lexus? Thank you! |
| I just spent 2k on an A service but I have an AMG. I go to Euromotorcars. |
| I also have a 2021 mercedes. I take it to the dealer. I think service A is $395, I thought. Mercedes use synthetic oil, so it wont be $35. |
You don't use synthetic. |

Yep, sounds familiar. The old "A service" and "B service". Did all that and at 90K (just after we bought it) had to replace engine due to crack in engine block. Fortunately it was covered by Mercedes. Then all those services that were so expensive, and it needed a new transmission 10 years later. Couldn't pay anyone to take it away. Gave to a friend who might rebuild it one day.
Back to Honda and Toyotas in our garage and so happy. |
| Do you have a service plan? I have an Audi and I don't think I've ever paid that much for a routine service unless there was something else going on. |
