The Dropout on Hulu (Elizabeth Holmes story)

Has anyone started this? It's getting good reviews so I will watch it tonight! I love Amanda Seyfried and Naveen Andrews (Sayid from LOST).

I can't wait for this! Loved the book Bad Blood by the WSJ journalist who cracked everything. I've gotten so spoiled with binging that I want to wait until a few are out so I can binge on a weekend vs. waiting for new episodes every week.

The one about the uber founder looks good too. https://www.sho.com/super-pumped

Seems a lot more sympathetic to her than the podcast by the same name.

I didn't listen to the podcast, but watched the HBO documentary (The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley) so wasn't sure about watching a dramatization about it, but watched the first episode and am hooked. Amanda Seyfried is doing a great job. To the PP, 3 episodes have dropped.

I like it so far. Amanda Seifried is doing some weird stuff with the character, but it's a weird character so it works. I listened to the podcast it's based on so there's nothing new in the story, and they have been very faithful to it so far. I enjoyed Laurie Metcalf in the first episode (small role but significant one and is setting up some interesting stuff for later in the story).

Mostly I am just grateful that they are just telling the story without an obnoxious framing device. I was so annoyed by the way Inventing Anna framed the story of Anna Sorokin around the journalist who wrote the profile about her. Just the dumbest possible way of presenting that story, and so dull. The Drop Out is sensibly focusing on the interesting part -- namely, this character and the crazy stuff she did. I'm glad it's not the story of a podcast host telling the story of a more interesting person.

Yes, neat to see Laurie Metcalf and William H. Macy in the first episode.

I watched the first couple of episodes. It seems like they're portraying Holmes as autistic. Is that a common view of her?

ABC has a special on tonight about her @ 9

I won’t watch simply for the fact that I’m tired of hearing about her. Okay, I’ll probably give in and check it out but I hate that every immoral grifter and sociopath gets a podcast, Hulu show, HBO documentary, ABC special, and a book or two. I felt the same about the Tiger King and Dr. Death. Anna Sorokin too.

Seifried should win an award. She is pulling off the quirky, lying oddball very well.

Do you like it better than the HBO documentary?

I need to start with one of them.

It’s been awhile but I liked the documentary style rather than the dramatization. But HBO was done before the deposition and Hulu has that which I find really interesting. So, toss up I guess!

Amanda Seyfried nailed this role. She masterfully captures all the ticks and nuances of Elizabeth.
