Entertainment Weekly Subscribers

So I just learned that EW will no longer be printing their magazine (via a third party which is a bit annoying IMO) and while I do read their website, it doesn't appear to be behind a paywall. So my question for other subscribers is what are we getting? Should I be downloading a monthly e-mag and if so with what app? I am pretty frustrated that EW hasn't contacted me but I do enjoy their product. Also, I am a big supporter of journalism having been raised by two so I don't wish to cancel my subscription.

Bonus question--what is the last print mag and did you receive it? I thought it would be the Bridgerton issue but I haven't gotten that in the mail. The last physical copy I received was the Ben Affleck cover.

Sorry, OP. About a year after EW became a monthly, I let my long-standing subscription lapse.

I’m sad that magazines are going away in actual magazine form. Like you, I appreciate print media. Even before EW, my mom and I subscribed to Premiere magazine when I was younger and lived at home!

I will always miss getting an EW in my mailbox every Friday like clockwork.

+1 I loved both the print magazine and the website content. Both started circling the drain around 2014/2015 when they let their best writers go in favor of bloggers.

OP here--man is that what happened? I would have been willing to pay more $$$ for quality writing/research/topics and I bet a lot of other subscribers would have too. Shortsighted and now they can't even print the magazine anymore.

Me too. I'd curl up on Saturday afternoon and dig in. I know so much less about movies, books, tv and theater since EW stopped publishing weekly.

Is there a weekly or monthly semi-equivalent in print I can subscribe to? My Vanity Fair is now as thick as a catalog when it used to be like a phonebook.

Yup Owen Gleiberman was probably the highest profile writer that was cut. I remember I moved into a new house around that time, all of a sudden half of the articles were about social media stars and I was getting through the magazine in 15 minutes. Whereas before, the articles were all so rich and interesting, an issue could last me nearly a week. I wish I had kept some of those older issues.

Finally got my last issue in the mail. Sad day indeed.

It seems that the last printed issue is the Ewan McGregor cover April 2022. I received it today. Absolutely no news for subscribers which I think is rude: they could at least offer a replacement subscription to People or another mag.

Eventually I think there will be no magazines at all.

This is partly related to a changing environment, but it's also related to the magazines and newspapers themselves. I subscribed to Vanity Fair for many years, but in the later years they would force me to sign up for auto renewal to get the best rate one year and the next year increase the rate well beyond the rates advertised in the cards inserted in the magazine (remember those?? great bookmarks). After a few years of calling and asking for (and getting) a reduction to the advertised rate, one year they told me that rate was only to entice new subscribers and not available for existing. That was the end for me. You can't reward me for 20+ years of loyal subscriptions?

As for newspapers, we gave up our paper subscription when each edition became smaller and smaller and the final straw: they stopped running some of the comics I liked

I couldn't even find where to contact them. How are they allowed to keep subscriber money?

One the subscription page of EW's website, they propose to write at their customer service at EntertainmentWeeklyCS@cdsfulfillment.com.

I send an e-mail last week (March 22nd). I only got an automatic response saying they received my e-mail and that a representative will write back. I'm still waiting.

FINALLY GOT AN ANSWER!! I wrote to meredith@cdsfulfillment.com tuesday and they answered 3 days later with this:
"The print and digital editions of Entertainment Weekly have ceased publication with the April 2022 issue.
The Entertainment Weekly website will still be available, and no subscription is needed to view the website.
The remaining issues on your Entertainment Weekly subscription have been transferred to People magazine, which will begin with the May 16, 2022 issue."

Now is People interesting enough for me? I don't know. I might ask for a refund.

Sad I loved EW. I haven't had a subscription in a while. I have wondered how they handle the absolute deluge of shows at this point. There must be ton of amazing shows they don't even have the resources or space to talk about.

Also their book reviews section was EXCELLENT. Still on the web I guess...I'll have to check that out.

I stopped subscribing about ten years ago but was a loyal subscriber for 15 years before that. I would go for a refund over getting People instead.
