| Currently we live in a townhouse, but I would very much want a house with land but that we can afford only if we leave Fairfax County. My kid (2nd grade) has very high chances of getting into Level IV AAP. That’s basically the reason why we haven’t moved yet. I’m so thorn, has anyone moved outside of FC and pulled kids out of AAP with no regrets? We cannot afford private (maybe a catholic school, but even then it would be a lot). |
| I had friends move recently to a more rural part of Virginia and they absolutely love their new school district and area. |
| AAP is not so exciting that I wouldn't move. I would check the school district out where I am moving first to make sure it fits our needs. |
Where did they move? Do you know the name of their school district? We’re thinking Warrenton or maybe upper Loudoun (Purcellville, Lovettsville). Most of the people on this forum think that’s basically the edge of the world…My kid is definitely smart and above average, but I guess I can do extra school at home with him? While I want him to go to AAP, the idea of staying here 10+ years or probably forever at that point…😵💫 |
| This depends on where you're considering moving to and longer term plans for high school. People like to complain but northern va has the most top ranking high schools in VA |
Oh, they moved out past Front Royal - benefits of being permanently remote. |

Google E3 math.
Fairfax is implementing it. E3 will severely water-down math for accelerated learners. FFX is not just blue, it has become radicalized. For your child’s sake, move someplace better. |
True. But that used to be true for Montgomery County, MD, until radicalized Democrats ruined that system. The current #1 high school in the USA is TJ. Read up on what our radical school board is doing to TJ (not to mention the rest of the schools in VA). |
| It all sounds well and good but I have yet to hear where this mythical place is that just blanket has better public schools. Especially so without significant downsides. Either way though I’d be listening as I’m not specifically tied to here. |
Can you please explain more please? I’m not sure I really understand what it means |
Hi. I have not participated in this thread but it explains parts of the problem with E3: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1024150.page#21590150 |
The bolded is true but Fairfax families are starting to wise up (hopefully) before its too late. TJ is the number one school in the country but several Fairfax/northern VA high schools make the list for best in the state. The list has been post on DCUM recently. |
School ranking lists have nothing to do with actual teacher quality. Everyone conflates the two, but they are completely separate things. To clarify, one can't conclude that the math teachers in Fairfax are better than the math teachers at a school lower on the list in a rural area. The rankings measure average standardized test scores, but not teacher quality. |
If you ask FCPS (and I did), they are fairly cagey about E3. In one breath they say they want to keep advanced math, give all kids "access to rigor" and raise the standards for all kids, and use ability clustering rather than separate classes. E3 sounds good on paper, I guess, but a disaster in the actual classroom. |
But your child has not been accepted yet. Why are you thorn now? |
