When does weight loss start with intermittent fasting?

I've been on a 16-8 intermittent fasting scheduled for about 2 weeks with no weight loss. When did your weight loss start with IF?

What is your calorie deficit?

Never. I’ve had to combine it with calorie counting.

I’ve been doing it for 6 weeks and have lost very little but I was only about 5lbs overweight. Perhaps it works best on very overweight people?

Never? It starts with reduced calorie intake.

The purpose of IF is to reduce the caloric intake. You eat healthy lower calories within the open window. You can do this 24 hours a day or by establishing an IF routine to ensure you are negative calories. If you eat your normal calorie intake nothing will happen.

For me, also never. I was so hungry it did not reduce calorie consumption. I have much better luck with just lowering sugar consumption.

I think the problem for me is that I never really ate much at breakfast anyway and rarely snack. So not eating between 6pm and midday the next day is only skipping breakfast. Everything I read seems to imply that it is more than just calorie restriction but I guess in the end, that is all it is.

For me it started immediately but it was very slow. 1-3 pounds a month. Which seems lame but two years later I’m down almost 50 pounds! Never seems to go at any other pace, but I don’t think about what I eat much. I also have pcos so for me the fasting itself has likely cured my insulin resistance.

+1. But IF helps me stay within my calories for the day. It also helps me to maintain when I want to maintain with less effort.

Whenever you get into a caloric deficit. Cramming 3000 calories into an 8 hour window be “intermittent fasting” is not going to make you lose weight. Limit your calories to be in a deficit and the window is going to help regulate your hormones. That’s all.

I only gained weight after 3 months. Switched to keto and lost weight. Now I count calories, it’s the only way. IF can work for some people, but not for others. But I’d try at least 60 days.

IF only works if you also change your diet. Start tracking your food intake.
