I was baptized in a very loosey-goosey parish so this is giving me anxiety. |

If Archie Bunker could pull it off, I’m sure you’re just fine.
This is ridiculous. We vs I??? Of all the things in the whole wide world that could ban you from being a Christian or keep the gates of heaven heaven closed, you think this lands on God’s list? |
|
Don't worry, OP. That sort of thing is extremely rare. Even if you had an "invalid" baptism: A, the Church might never discover it, B, the Church won't make it too complicated to right that wrong, and C, on a spiritual level, I don't think God cares very much. |
| Why is this giving you anxiety? What do you think will happen? |
I don't know. I'm not even Catholic anymore (still Christian, though). It's just making me uneasy. |
| There are conditional baptisms for people in situations like this, but I'd definitely talk that through with your priest/pastor extensively before doing anything. It seems like this may be more about anxiety than anything else. |
Then your issue is psychological rather than spiritual. Seek help from a doctor. |
+1 lots here need to do this |
I don't think that's fair to OP. The spiritual authority for OP's religion says that a sacrament could be invalid. According to the rules of the religion that is very serious. It's not like OP is just being randomly scrupulous. Talk to your priest, OP. |
|
Wow, the wrong pronoun made it invalid? OP, find a Lutheran. I was taught anyone can baptize anyone at any time. The example in confirmation class was if you come upon a car accident and don't know if the victims are baptized but are still alive, you can cover that on the spot by baptizing them. I guess if they're dead you gotta find a Mormon. I don't know if Heaven is segregated by denomination but Lutherans are ok people and less annoying than really evangelical or pentacostal people.
|
OP says they are no longer Catholic, and my impression is they no longer belong to a church. But if Jesus actually does the baptizing, why can't you baptize yourself? |

These people say you actually can.

Get a friend to do it. Even the Catholic church says anyone can baptize, doesn't even have to be a Christian. Not that they recommend it.
The baptizer has to pour water on your head, say the words, and intend to "do what the Church does." Simple, and done! |
|
But why does OP care if they're not even a practicing Catholic? By the Church's standards, you're not going to get to heaven just by being properly baptized if that is what OP thinks . . . .
Agree that you need psychological help OP if this truly makes you uneasy. |
Yikes. Please don't baptize people without their permission. |
