Surprise Gender For Surprise Baby?

Anonymous
We have two kids young kids and found out we are expecting our third. We only planned to have two kids and unexpectedly got pregnant with our third. We found out the sex fairly early with our first two through NIPT testing, but are considering keeping this one a surprise. Has anyone chosen to keep gender a surprise subsequent children?

Can we stop with the “ unexpected baby” talk. We all know where babies come from and what we have to do to get them. There is no “unexpected” when you’re not using protection.

I thought only religious people don’t find out the gender?

Totally agree. There are lots of birth control options for women or a vasectomy for the man if you are done having kids. These unexpected pregnancies are obviously people who didn’t feel totally done so took no precautions. That’s not really a surprise pregnancy.

I'm not religious, and I never found out the gender. It didn't matter to us, and we liked the element of surprise.

+1. OP, you call it unexpected bc you weren’t actively planning it but it’s kind of like standing in the middle of the street and being unexpectedly hit by a car. It’s not that unexpected considering what you were doing that caused it to happen. Take some responsibility.

Also, congrats! And do keep the baby’s sex a surprise til birth. It’s more fun that way.

Well BC fails. I became pregnant with an IUD, so there is absolutely times with unexpected/surprise pregnancies.

- Not OP

Uh. What? I’m an atheist, so is my DH. We never found out sex til birth. Just thought it was more exciting that way.

That’s exceedingly rare. Was yours an ectopic pregnancy? Typically if you get pregnant w an IUD it is not viable pregnancy.

Do you mean surprise sex? The gender might very well be a surprise, but maybe not for a few more years and there are far more options nowdays than the standard two for sex.

No. They aren't sure if the embryo pushed the IUD out, or it wasn't placed well. But it happened. It was a hell of a surprise.

Once that was over, my husband did get a vasectomy, but let's not pretend that BC is 100%.

OP here. I agree fully with this statement but this is not what happened. We used protection and still got pregnant. Our first two were planned and no BC was used. We were in the process of deciding whether I would go back on BC or my husband would get a vasectomy and ended up pregnant after using a condom. We have used condoms with both kids post birth.

I don’t think anyone thinks BC is 100%. Nothings 100% at preventing pregnancy except abstinence. Even vasectomy has a failure rate. But fewer than 1% of people w IUDs get pregnant. So it’s still exceedingly rare. Most of the time when posters say they had an unexpected pregnancy they actually mean they weren’t being that careful/weren’t using BC appropriately.

That’s not what science says. There are only two genders. Sorry. Not everyone believes this nonsense.

There was a YouTube thing where a couple got pregnant 10 years after her husband had a vasectomy. It’s rare but it can happen.
