| DC got into Ivy, and now just been offered full scholarship at a state university. Could the Ivy lower the price based on that? We don’t qualify for financial aid. |
| Not gonna happen |
If your DC got into an Ivy ED then you should have pulled the State U application. If you tell the ED Ivy that you want to negotiate based on a scholarship to a school where you should have pulled the application you might actually be risking your admission spot. If you got in SCEA then you will just get a flat "no" for an answer. But go ahead and try if you want. |
| Lots of others are happy to pay and take your spot. If you really can’t afford it then go to the state school on scholarship and save your money for grad school. |
This sounds accurate. If you do not commit to the ED offer for any reason other than the the ones listed, DC is risking the spot. |
And SCEA HYP schools will decline to change their aid offers based on the state school scholarship. |
Ivy schools only give need-based aid. They do not give merit scholarships. So, they will not match another school's merit award. |
| What do DC got into Yale and Penn and got a better aid package from Penn but prefers Yale. Can we negotiate with Yale? |
If you don’t qualify for financial aid they aren’t going to give you financial aid. |
You can try. I know a family who were successful with this at Yale and Columbia. |
Could people at least try to spot the trolls? How can someone have gotten into both these schools at this point in the admissions cycle? Just use your brain and then ignore |
Take it easy. The question was what if. |
|
You would need to qualify for FA, have submitted your FAFSA + been approved under the school's calculator. Otherwise- no. As others wrote-- Ivies do not have merit aid- they do not need to.
We still chose Ivy over nearly free+ it paid off for our kid. No FA at Ivy for us. |
LOL. One of DC's friends last year had admissions to Penn, Vandy (full ride), michigan and Harvard. They tried to play the Vandy full ride to get something out of Penn and Harvard. No go. |
Penn will not provide as much need based aid as Yale as their formulas are different and Yale is always more generous. So only the reverse scenario is at all likely, but yes you can try to negotiate need based aid based on a peer school's aid package. Sometimes the package can improve slightly to match another Ivy. |
