New series on HBO based on the Jack Reacher books. Reacher is a badass genius with a heart of gold who solves crimes and beats the crap out of bad guys. Alan Ritchson who plays Reacher is carved out of granite, and I think I have a little crush on the Roscoe Conklin character played by actress Willa Fitzgerald.
I'm only two episodes in, but Reacher finds himself in a small southern town and is almost immediately suspected of a murder. It doesn't take long for him to establish his alibi, beat the hell out of some baddies, and establish that his detective skills are way better than those of the locals. |
I watch Reacher on Amazon Prime. Is there another version on HBO, with Tom Cruise as the main character? |
| It’s prime not HBO |
| Tom Cruise should never have been in that Jack Reacher movie. Reacher is described in the books as being way over six feet tall. Tom Cruise is 3 foot two! It's ridiculous that he was cast as Reacher. |

I started a thread a couple days ago and no one commented. Oh well.
It's good but Ritchson is not who I picture in my head from the books when I watched this. I'm thinking tall big and lanky, not muscular. He must have to work out hours for that physique. Anyway, it's entertaining for sure. |
| I mean, this is basically just a summary. What do you actually like about it? It sounds kind of generic. |
Reacher was tall and lanky in my mind also - I mean where would he have gotten those giant muscles, he doesn't go to the gym - but Ritchson is a better fit than Tom Cruise. We've watched the first two episodes so far and enjoyed those. |
| it's violent and I'm not used to the full frontal that's currently on streaming TV - not complaining but different. And, about time. |
Dammit. You're right. Sorry about the brain fart. I'm talking about the one on Prime. |
Honestly, in the early episodes, I like that the protagonist is just better than everyone else at everything. Total wish fulfillment. Also, that I'm not dealing with moral ambiguity or an anti-hero. Maybe things get more nuanced and complicated later on. |
| Watched Ep 1 - it was really enjoyable! |
| Reacher was never portrayed by Lee Child as lanky. His defining physical characteristic is being built like the Hulk, which is why Tom Cruise’s casting was a head-scratcher. |
| The Killing Floor is the best Reacher novel, IMO. It’s all downhill from there and I’ve read every last one of them. I like the short stories better, with vignettes of Reacher’s childhood and family. |
| I watched 3 episodes. The first 2 we’re good. Now it’s getting a bit boring… |
