Fact - Electricty is produced with 60 to 70% of fossil fuels
Another Fact - It takes 30,000 lbs of Iron Ore to produce 30 lbs of Cobalt for each 1,000 lb EV battery. |
| Take public transportation. We are going through a profound global transformation. The world is deglobalizing. |
So then 40% less fossil fuels than burning exclusively fossil fuels. Sounds like a good thing to me. Batteries are not a fixed design so you can’t just categorically deny their value because of a temporary design and sourcing situation. Why do you care so much about the impacts of cobalt mining but not oil and coal drilling? How much of a mountain top in West Virginia do you think it takes to produce the coal that you want to burn? |
| If the oil companies were not so greedy, we wouldn't be in this situation, but they are reaping ridiculous profits, raping the American people. It is political....they want the GOP in control. |
Fact: electricity used to be produced with nearly 100% of fossil fuels. Fact: Republicans have fought all progress toward clean energy for the last thirty years. Fact: point source pollution is better than non point since it can be regulated, cleaned up and improved. Fact: a solar array on a home can power your car https://news.energysage.com/solar-panels-and-electric-cars-can-i-use-solar-to-charge-my-vehicle/ (That would be zero carbon pollution for those having trouble keeping up). |
Clean energy is not clean at all. How do you think those solar panels are made, plus all the equipment needed, plus transportation. We couldn't even make them or maintain them without fossil fuels. |
They usually want the GOP in, so they can profit even more. It's sickening. |
Yes, clean energy is not 100% clean, but as people are trying to argue, it is signficantly cleaner than fossil fuel consumption. Some progress is better than no progress. Yes, we cannot convert entirely to clean energy sources and it isn't 100% cleaner, but any advances are still advances. First, fossil fuels are being depleted and to extend the fossil fuels that we have as long as possible, alternatives are needed. The more alternatives that we develop, support and use, the longer the existing supply of fossil fuels will last and the lower the pollution effects will be on the planet. The point is that we should be moving as much as we to cleaner energy sources. We need to support the clean energy industries. The combination of extending the existing fossil fuel supply for as long as possible, in addition to reducing the toxic and polluting effects are a win-win. |
Fact: Elon Musk is the largest seller of both solar and EVs in the US Fact: Democrats hate him Fact: This is deeply confusing |
Fact: Many wealthy Democrats reside in huge homes and jet around in private planes. They aren't worrying about clean energy or energy consumption. They DO like to admonish others. |
Dp- your grandkids suffocate either way. |
Republicans have fought ALL progress toward clean energy? Republicans in places like Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Kansas must have missed that memo. I know you can’t see the windmills from your airplane while flying over those states but you should check out the data on what those states have done. Florida, too. |
I dispute your “fact” that Democrats hate him. I don’t know a single democrat who hates him. I have friends who are tired of reading about Musk. But I do not know anyone who hates him. |
The point is that it's a universal problem and not about one political party or another. |
The second part is unfortunately true (even though Trump sold them out to MBS) but the first part isnt. The industry was in a world of pain before this covid induced price increase. |
