… to establish K-12 lab schools. Long overdue. I love this guy.

Not familiar with these type of schools but any additional option is good. Are these considered charter schools? If not, he can work on paving the way to make it easier to establish those next.

“I don’t care whether you call them charter schools or lab schools,” Youngkin said. “We are not defining the solution, but opening up all available avenues to be innovative. This is our opportunity to think outside the box.”

Wow that’s really exciting. I live in Maryland now but that really does make me think about wanting to move.

There probably is a good use for these schools in some districts but I dislike how he he allows for-profit groups to create these lab schools. It seems like part of his plan to dismantle public schools and create vouchers.

Totally agree.

Totally agree.

+1 I am not against high quality, non-profit charter schools. I do not want taxpayer money going to religious schools or for profit institutions.

The Lt. Governor was saying in an interview there used to be a lab school that was serving underprivileged kids that was closed under the Northram admin and she said that was sad or a shame.

It’s an interesting concept and has some potential, but I think it depends what their end goal is (and I don’t really trust the wolf in a fleece vest). UVA has a program called the Community Lab School. I don’t know much about it other than it’s a public charter for grades 6-12.

Also, it looks like he wants to push for trade schools. Personally, I feel trade schools are better after graduating high school. If funds get diverted from established local k-12 public schools for trade schools, I’d have a real problem with that.

There are a few lab schools in Virginia already. Many focus on preschool/early childhood. Not sure which one supposedly closed under Northam.

Yes, and if the focus is on trade schools, the goal could be to create a pipeline for the private entity’s future workforce.

I could even see some sinister situation where Amazon charters a lab school.

He’s not turning K-12 schools into trade schools. Obviously, these would be an alternative to college.

I love all the conspiracy theories - do you people lay awake at night and fret about this nonsense? These partnerships are a fantastic idea. It has nothing to do with religious or “for-profit” schools.
