Congrats to Nicci Wright - new DoC for OL Reign Academy

Not only do I have the opportunity to join an amazing organization in OL Reign Academy, but it’s almost like a massive exhale coming back. The smile comes back to your face when you come home. You’re just happy to be around your people again,” said Wright.

Wow. What happened at Arlington?

Nothing. She's from that area of the continent is excited to be returning (close to) home.

No idea. But if she's been longing to be nearer to home (which it seems like she was, based on those comments) + they're affiliated with an NWSL team that she can presumably get involved with in some capacity + she has existing relationships with the current coaching staff then the move seems to make sense.

"Before moving to Arlington, I left a club that was used to having national champions every year. With the move, I went to a club that didn’t even really focus on girls’ soccer. I know the Reign are way more advanced than that, but no matter how great you are, there are still areas that we can improve and build that game and brand even more and be proud of what we are doing because it will come from our work as coaches, staff, & players. I think that’s what I’m most excited about.”

OL Reign is in the GA. Nicci played a role in the start of the GA. My guess is maybe she wasn’t happy with the switch to ECNL?
I think it’s a great move for her, and while many at Arlington will miss her, I’m know a few who definitely won’t.

Given that they sacrificed the boys to get the girls into ECNL that seems a little harsh.

She’s going to GAL? Lol!

I don't read her comments as that harsh. She was at a club that had national championships -- McLean --- she moves to Arlington and had to build everything. Happy to go somewhere where I don't have to build from scratch.

Arlington in a great place now. Wasn't when she joined.

I think in this case the youth program has a direct linkage to the pro team. None of the local GAL teams have that.

Professional team affiliation doesn’t mean you’re good. Washington Spirit DA was terrible.

There was for sure a thread on this. About how her old club was going to crash and burn. They must have had it taken down.

Arlington sacrificed the girls to ECNL so boys had some game. The Arlington boys didn't make MSL and that is the truth.

MSL? Lol. Arlington was offered full MLS Next and turned it down for this year. I don't think the academy coaches were entirely happy about turning it down - although MLS Next is only a shadow of the old DA, but that was the club decision - and part of it was about keeping the girls in ECNL.
