Please help me choose before I head to paint store today for my preteen girls bedroom with white bunk beds. I narrowed it to:
Ocean air Palladium Blue Tranquility or Swimming |
|
I have just been looking at Palladian Blue for a guest room and got the 'peel and stick' pain sample.
One thing to consider, if you haven't already, is what direction the windows face, and how that will mesh with the undertones of the paint you chose. I really like the info provided by blogger/designer Kylie M. and here's her advice on considering exposures. You can also search her site for those 3 paint colors and she will go into more detail on what kinds of rooms they work in or don't work in. https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/north-east-south-west-which-paint-colour-is-the-best/ (I learned the hard way that a mismatch of these 2 things can 'ruin' the look of a color that looks great on the sample chip. I painted one room a creamy light yellow, but it's a north-facing room and the paint I chose has the wrong undertones and as my son pointed out today, it looks very greenish.) |
| If you like Palladian Blue, take a look at SW Sea Salt. It's the best color in the world. |
| Palladian |
| Op here. Palladium blue looks so grey on wall and girls are complaining they want more aqua. I bought BM ocean spray and sampled that on wall too which is too bright. Any recommendation on something in between? |
| Maybe Sherwin Williams watery or tidewater? |
| Palladium Blue looked like mint on my walls. Deep regret. |
| What are you swatching Palladian Blue against? I’m sitting here looking into my brightly-lit powder room with white and marble tiles and it looks positively green. I find it the most soothing color. Everything is always brighter when you put it on the whole room and not in a swatch, even a large one. |
| Ask your kids. |

I painted my son's room Palladian Blue and it looks gorgeous with white trim and navy and gray accents. But it's also a south facing room with a lot of natural light.
Try BM Hazy Blue, BM Key Largo Green or BM Green Wave if they really want a rich aqua color. But again, lighting is everything! |
| Oh--and try BM Wedgewood Grey. The name sounds like it will be grey but it's the prettiest soft aqua |
|
I have the stick on samples for Palladian Blue and Sea Salt in my living room right now, and Sea Salt is much less saturated, so if DD thinks Palladian is too gray than definitely don't go for Sea Salt.
My actual living room walls are SW Drizzle and it's a pretty bright aqua, much brighter than any of these options, so I'm thinking of painting it a much lighter shade. But that's the direction to go if you want more color. |
| BM barely teal is gorgeous and my DD has it |
Agree, be careful, once the whole room is painted you’ll be disappointed there isn’t more gray undertone. Another similar shade is BM crystalline. I think same depth as Palladian but more green. Beautiful color, but in my sunny kitchen it ended up a much truer green than I intended. Also, try to please the kids without being too literal. They’ll always insist on the more Crayola shade when picking, but in the end the toned down version will work. |
| In general the sample SHOULD look too gray. Once all that color is on the wall they’ll perceive it as much more intense. |
