APS Test to Stay

Anonymous
Can someone explain how it works? I can't find anything on the APS website.
Anonymous
They are just in the set up phase Right now. They’re getting all the kids vaccine information ( have you submitted yours?), distributing test to all the kids (ours came home this week). After all that legwork is complete, they will implement it and give us more details on how it specifically applies to APS

Here’s the program: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/protect-yourself/covid-19-testing/k-12-testing/test-to-stay/

From the site:

Test to Stay (TTS) is a practice that allows close contacts of individuals with COVID-19 to remain in the classroom instead of quarantining at home. It requires close contacts to take a COVID-19 test every day for 5 days after the exposure. If the test is negative, they are allowed to stay in school. They must also wear a mask and remain without symptoms for 10 days after the exposure. Test kits are provided free of charge.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that schools consider using Test to Stay to reduce the impact of quarantine and limit school absences. Test to Stay will be open to unvaccinated or not yet fully vaccinated students.

Is TTS only for kids who aren't vaccinated? Or will they switch to this for vaccinated kids too?
Anonymous
I'm assuming it is for vaccinated kids as well. The one thing each school will need to figure out is lunch. 100% masking means those kids cannot take their masks off in school. Solvable, but an implementation measure every school will need to plan for.

It is for undocnated children because vaccinate children do not need to quarantine if they do not have symptoms.

If it's not for the vaccinated students, has APS asked for proof of vaccination? Unless I missed something, I've not received anything asking for or about vaccination status or to provide proof of vaccination.

I think its to lessen disruption/missed school. Right now if you are a close contact, even if vaccinated, you need to sit out a day or two while they verify your vaccination status. This is different from before -- previously the nurse verified vaccination status, now its someone with Arlington public health

They have asked. There is a link in the 1/28/22 Friday Five email.

Yes! Duran sent an email last week giving you the link to submit vax status. I'm not trying to be rude, but please read the weekly Superintendent emails. People come post things here without having all the knowledge.

Dear APS Families,

I want to thank you for your ongoing support to keep our schools safe and for adhering to the mitigation measures we have in place during the pandemic. This takes all of us doing our part, and we are grateful for the many ways APS students, staff and families have come together to maintain in-person learning this school year.

Here are a few upcoming calendar reminders, updates and information about plans for virtual learning on inclement weather days:

Mon, Jan. 31, Grade Prep Day (No School for Students): As a reminder, Fri. Jan. 28 marks the end of the 2nd quarter. Monday is a grade prep day, and there is no school for students. Please be aware that our staff will be teleworking on Monday and will monitor emails during normal hours. The Welcome Center and front offices will be closed.

Transition to Virtual Learning During Inclement Weather: Now that we have used the days banked for traditional “snow day” closures this school year, APS will revert to virtual learning on any future inclement weather days requiring us to close our facilities. Virtual instruction will follow the normal school day schedules and will include a combination of live instruction via Teams and independent (asynchronous) work.

View additional information and a parent guide about what to expect and how prepare for virtual learning on inclement weather days.
If virtual learning is not possible during an inclement weather closure due to widespread power outages or other factors, we may need to implement a calendar change later in the school year to make up the missed instructional time. The potential calendar revisions were presented at the Jan. 20 School Board meeting and will only be implemented if needed. Families will receive notice well in advance if any calendar changes are made due to inclement weather decisions.
At-Home Test Kit Distribution: Last week we received a large shipment of rapid at-home Covid-19 test kits. These kits are in the process of being delivered to our schools for distribution to students, beginning toward the end of this week or early next. We are finalizing a video with step-by-step instructions to accompany the kits. There will be no reporting requirement for students based on their use of the test kit unless they test positive. If a student tests, positive, they will be asked to inform the main office to start the contact tracing process.

Student Vaccine Verification: As announced last week, we will begin to collect voluntary student vaccine information in anticipation of launching Test-to-Stay and to further support the contact tracing process to reduce any disruption to a student’s education. Families are encouraged to complete student vaccine verification by uploading their documentation and completing the online questionnaire. Access the portal here: https://apsva.iad1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9KMZQzvMK61iJ4G. Please ensure you enter an “S” before your student’s ID number to ensure that their record is updated appropriately. Families who need support can contact our COVID Response Team at covid@apsva.us.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership as students finish the 2nd quarter strong!

I normally do read them - or at least skim through the topics and read the relevant ones. I guess I missed this ONE buried at the BOTTOM of his message. It's not like our kid's school sent something out specifically requesting the status from us. Or APS admin sent out a message specifically requesting/requiring action. Thank you for posting. In the future, it would be really nice if you could do so without trying to shame the person who stated they might have missed something. It's not like APS doesn't send out a lot of unnecessary emails - and buries key items in lengthy ones.

They sent out 2 emails about this last week, so I guess PP missed both. PP should make statements that they haven't been asked for something when in fact they have. Too many parents bashing APS when the info they're "confused" about it at their finger tips. It's not shaming, it's holding people responsible.

Supposedly they sent home tests but my kid did not come home with one. Actually neither kid did, now that I think of it (one in MS, one in ES). Anyone else not get one?

Our fifth grader at discovery came home with one last week. Our middle Schoolers at Williamsburg have not come home with one yet.
