Some elementary schools moving start times from 7:55 AM to 7:30 AM (gotta get up 25 minutes earlier, kiddos!)
All high schools wil move their start times to 9:30 AM and will let out at 4:18 PM (15 minutes later, in most cases). This is to help increase the reliability and safety of transporting students and on-time arrival. Wow, though. These are big changes. |
I wish MCPS did that. They have it reversed, when teens, whose need for morning sleep has been demonstrated, need to wake up before dawn, and little ones go to school at 9 or 9:30am. |
My kids' bus already comes at 7:10 a.m. I am all for early hours for ES'ers who are typically up earlier anyway, but heading out before 7 a.m. is going to be tough. |
Crappy and shady how LCPS makes decisions without input from students, teachers, parents and staff. But, can anyone be surprised by anything LCPS does and more importantly how they do it? Yeah, didn’t think so.
This is simple: email is sent to principal at beginning of school year and you tell them this asinine and ridiculous decision doesn’t sit well and that you’ll still bring your kid in at 7:50. Mark them tardy. They can't do anything except send you a letter saying how they’re concerned excessive tardiness is affecting their academics (lmao) |
Of course my ES is an “early one” - thank goodness we are done with it this year! Our MS is unchanged.
It’s been a week for LC parents. |
Woof. My middle school kids time is unchanged. 8:30 still. Elementary kid is now 8. I teach high school and 9:15 already felt late as hell, now it’s 9:30! Blehh. We’ll live but still. |
The early ES and all HS are the losers here.
We could have just offered the bus drivers more money, God forbid. |
I’m confused how this alleviates the driver shortage. Are drivers doing 4 routes now? An early ES, late ES, MS and HS? |
I feel sorry for the elementary teachers with their own young children in daycare. I’m in eastern Loudoun, and most of the daycares I am aware of don’t open before 7AM. Going to make it difficult for thos teachers to get their kids dropped off before reporting to work.
Going to be rough in the winter, with elementary age kids walking to bus stops in the dark, too. We have a Kindergartner in LCPS…is the school system usually like this? No input from parents or staff on such impactful decisions? |
As many people like any decision as don’t like it. Polling is pointless. |
Just when you thought it couldn’t possibly turn into anymore of a shit show.... My kid attends one of the elementary schools impacted. So, now I guess I have to wake my 7 year old up at 5:30 for school? And my neighbor’s lazy teenager who stays up all night gaming can sleep in longer and have another excuse for not getting a job. |
Why???? We wake up at 7 now. So we will wake up at 6:40 next year. NBD. |
Bus currently picks my son up at 6:50. So, waking up at 7 isn’t exactly an option. |
So drive him. New tardy bell isn’t until 7:30. |
I’m so glad for you that you’re life is so easy! I guess I’ll get up at 4am so I can load up my other child wheelchair and all and deal with their morning seizures in time to not miss the tardy bell!! I’m a rarity in that I try not to act like an entitled jerk but this change is just asinine. Young kids should not have to get up at 5:30 in the morning to get to school. |
