My DC1 is in a Nuna Rava and we’re very happy with it. It’s great for extended rear facing, so our plan is to stay rear facing for another year until DC1 is four. We need to get another convertible seat for our baby soon and I’m debating if we should get another Rava, or get something that doesn’t rear face as long and switch seats when DC1 turns to forward facing so that the baby rear faces in the Rava.
Any recommendations appreciated, or just different priorities that you had for the second kid’s car seat than the first kid (where we prioritized the extended rear facing). We have a car with a smaller backseat so we like the more compact depth of the Rava. |
| We got a Britax Clicktight as the next step after the infant seat, but we switched to forward facing at 24 months. I have a Honda Accord and it fits fine. |
| I would get another one as its always nice to have spares. |
| If you have a tight backseat consider a slimmer option like diono radian. Might leave room for a 3rd little butt to squeeze in. |
THIS! I regret not doing this |

Wait OP this is brilliant and something I hadn’t thought about at all. What’s the age gap between yours? We bought a rava for the same reason (extended rear facing) and plan to keep my son rear facing as long as possible. Have another on the way and they will be about 2 years apart. Was planning on a second rava but maybe I can get something cheaper because by the time #2 outgrows the rear facing limits, #1 will be ready to turn around. Truly this idea hadn’t crossed my mind.
My sister has a Graco Slim Fit and a Diono in her Camry and prefers the Graco! |
| you could also get the older child a rear-facing that goes into a high back booster (the diono does that) and give the rava to the baby. You will need a high back at some point, so you could buy just that one. |
OP here. Yes, my kids are 2 years apart too. My older child is perfectly happy rear facing for now, so I would love to wait until 3.5 or 4 before turning her around. I think my baby will outgrow the infant seat before she’s ready to turn around, so can’t go straight to a high backed booster but definitely looking for options that are better for leapfrogging the Nuna to whichever kid needs to still be rear facing. |
Thanks for the suggestion! A seat that I can use rear facing for a year and then use as a high back booster is exactly what I’m looking for. I’ll take a look at the Diono! |
The Graco Slim Fit 3 in 1 also goes from rear facing to forward facing to high back booster. Compared to diono, my sister says it has an easier install and her younger one seems comfier than her older did in the diono. |
This is basically what we just did. We had our older rear facing in her Extend2Fit car seat, which she outgrew at age 5. We just transitioned her to a ride safer travel vest and my 2.5yo son from a cheap Cosco seat to the other one. We don't drive often at all but this general idea could work for you. |
