Why can't Democrats register as Republicans (if requred) in certain states where there's an anti-Trump Republican incumbent (e.g. Romney, Murkowski, Cheney), vote in the Republican primaries to make sure the anti-Trump nominee wins. After this is done, at the general election, they can of course vote for whoever they want. I'm sure the Republicans may do the same but that should be OK with the Democratic party? Why is this not a strategy that they aren't pushing for? They don't even have to be secretive about it. |
Democrats in Virginia did this to keep Trump from winning the primary there in 2016. Things could be done but it’s not a large scalable national solution to getting rid of Trump. |
Why not though? All they need are 10 senate seats where Republicans have a strong likelihood of winning, carpet bomb them with ads targeted at democrats asking them to register as Republicans, and vote for the "good" candidate in the primaries. Why even bother being secretive about this? |
The republicans should take control of their party and get rid of Trump.
They won't though because they cannot win elections without both the traditional conservtives AND the MAGAs. |
My suggestion was to have democrats pretend to be the traditional conservatives just for the purpose of getting rid of the Trump-leaning nominees. Regardless of how powerful Trump is, if it doesn't translate to seats in the House and Senate, he can't do sh*t. There are enough Republicans that hate Trump and actually have the firepower to stand against him in the Senate/House where it matters. I'm talking about helping them win. Rather than try to win against, say, Mitt Romney, why not just help to make sure he stays. I get that he's not a "friend" in the long run but he's a "friendlier enemy" compared to the alternative. |
Sun Tzu would approve of this plan. But Democrats are too inept to implement it or even communicate it effectively without crouching into a defensive position in the media. |
They need to clean up their own house. As it is, the traditional conservatives are the minority in their party. If anything, they should be joining with the Dems to save our republic. Yet that aren't even doing that.
How hard would it have been for Collins, Mukowski and Ronmey to join with the Dems in a filibiuster carve out for voting rights? Nope, they couldn't even hold their noses and do that. |
Well I'm sure Collins is very concerned. |
There has been some talk of this for Wyoming-- for Dems to register as Republicans to help Liz Cheney fend off a primary challenge.
I hope they do it. It's not like Dems are ever going to win that seat in the general election anyway, and Liz Cheney is bringing b*lls of steel to the work of the 1/6 Commission. |
Are you talking about the Democrats who were so desperate to save the filibuster when they weren't in power? ![]() |
the Rs blew right past it anyway |
OP. That's exactly my point. There are several seats like that. Just expand that plan to the districts where it matters. |
+1 And why should a few million Democrats have to save the GOP from themselves and not get a say in their own primary? What kind of sense does that make? |
They cannot appear to "side with the Democrats" lest it ends up costing them their seats. If the dems stand behind them publicly as I suggest and if it is actually put into action, maybe they will. |
Republicans have it in their power to get rid of Trump, but they're a bunch of cowards. Everyone know where the bodies are buried, and are you telling me that McConnell doesn't know how to twist that knife without getting caught? |
