| I feel bad saying this because obviously she should do what she wants but I can’t help but be disappointed that a woman I considered a leader of the “we don’t all have to be skinny” movement got lipo |
| That is really, really disappointing. Wasn't Adele also in this group of celebrity women who embraced their bodies and then went and lost a 100+ lbs? |
You can’t embrace the fact that she didn’t feel great and wanted to lose the weight? |
| Lipo doesn’t really work it just comes back she’d be better off with a belly band |
|
Embracing and being positive about your body doesn't mean that you aren't allowed to get in shape or get liposuction. I agree that lipo is a smidge different than "getting in shape", but we all change our opinions about lipo after having kids.... It's about being okay with whatever shape you want to be in, or you are in. right?
Vilify people who gain weight. Vilify people who lose weight. Vilify people who stay the same weight their entire adult life. You really can't win. |
She had surgery so maybe she had health problems from the extra weight? |
|
She’s also a woman in the public eye and it’s not fair to expect her to both whether the extra scrutiny that comes from that AND be a standard bearer for women everywhere.
I think it’s upsetting that any woman feels pressure to get lipo (which unlike organic weight loss is unlikely to help with heart health or I really fitness except insofar as it might enable or encourage more physical activity). But I don’t judge any woman for getting it. Especially not someone who goes on stage/camera for her job. |
| Good for her! She did what she needed to in order to feel comfortable after having a hellish time getting and staying pregnant. She was completely honest about it. It's not like she's a kardashian. |
Think about how wrong what you wrote is. So because you want to find a way to accept your own decision to not lose weight, you're upset that a celebrity who you considered to be a "leader" has decided that she's tired of being overweight? Don't make your problem, her problem. |
| Wait, why are you commenting her body at all? |
PP. Interesting; I did not know about the surgery. I just remember seeing all the photos of before/after. |
| Personal choice is awesome. That’s feminism. It’s not absurd to think she made that choice for herself and only herself. Women evolve as they age and experience first hand how their body changes and their relationship to their body changes. Good for her for doing or not doing what she wants. Nothing to be disappointed about when a woman owns her life. |
I don’t think it’s a bad thing. You have to remember, they live in a world that is filled with a pressure to look a certain way. The fact that she lasted as long as she did is admirable. Whether or not she lost weight for herself or to fit in with Hollywood, we will never know but we don’t have to know. Her choice. |
|
Lipo is dangerous and purely cosmetic so I agree it’s disappointing when anyone gets it but I empathize with her decision to cave to pressure here.
I don’t feel at all the same about people who lose weight thru exercise/diet, or even through the surgery, which has been shown to have really positive effects on health outcomes. |
She denies it but everyone who had it says it is 100% surgery. Science also supports it, as is close to impossible to lose around 100-120 lbs. in less than a year. |
