Infertility Support and Discussion
There's a lot on here about how acupuncture may help with fertility treatments, but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with it as something to help prevent recurrent miscarriages? If so, anyone in particular to recommend?
I don't think there's any scientific evidence on that (like there is about acupuncture pre and post IVF transfer). However, my acupuncturist does believe it can help, so I've been going weekly in my first trimester.
I also went through my first semester because I was told it could help and I was willing to try anything! Who knows if it had any effect or not...
To the 2 PP's, this is OP: how far along are you now and what was your history?
I'm 6 weeks. I had one miscarriage, but haven't been able to get pregnant again. To be honest, if I didn't just really like my acupuncturist and find the appointments relaxing, I don't know if I'd still be going. Like I said, I don't think it can hurt (if they're knowledgeable about what points are appropriate for early pregnancy) but I'm not sure how much it helps.
Unfortunately it did not help me...
I'm convinced that it helped me keep (and ultimately deliver) my baby. I also took herbal supplements the first 7-8 weeks (after that time the smell made me sick). Continued acupuncture treatment for a couple months. I always felt like I could get conceive but it never really "took" so I needed help keeping things going.
I just miscarried in early March and have been going to acupuncture weekly since and it has been such a huge help, if for nothing else than simply to relax. As a PCOS patient, I am also really changing the way I eat and I think that's helping as well - if not to get pregnant than at least to get healthy. I am hoping all of this will help prevent recurring miscarriages because I just can't go through another miscarriage. Good luck to you!
I've been thinking about acupuncture now that I'm ttc again after several miscarriages. Any recommendations for an acupuncturist?
I have used both My-Hahn Weinberg (Reistertown) and Zoe Brenner (Rockville). Both were great.
I recommend my acupuncturist, Dr. Eugene Zhang in Fairfax, VA.
I also see Dr. Eugene. This month is my first cycle with him. I keep my finger cross
|
I did accupanture during my second preganacy (the first ended up miscarriage). I misscarriaed again the second time and the 3rd and the 4th time. as you see it did not help me to prevent miscarriage, but it helped me to relax.,

My acupuncturist told me that there are some things that she might be able to intervene in (along the lines of there's conception/implantation, and the system just needs a little boost or encouragement to keep things in) and things that she won't be able to. I don't have a history of miscarriage, though, so this was just in general with talking about me continuing treatment during the pregnancy (although I do have a history of hormonal imbalances and some other challenges that were risk factors for early miscarriage).
I heartily recommend the folks at Crossings in Silver Spring (http://www.crossingshealing.com), particularly Jane Grissmer. |
Most miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities so it's hard to imagine how acupuncture could help prevent them.
