Do you always make meat loaf from a packet?
I have ground beef, many spices, potato bread (to mix in) and ketchup. Can I do this without a packet, or is it best to go to the store and buy a packet of spice mix? |
| I have never used a packet. Just a little tomato sauce bread crumbs and italian seasoning. |
| I’ve never made meatloaf from a packet. Didn’t know this existed. |
| Yeah, don’t use a packet. Spice it however you want. |
| A packet of what? |
| A packet of what? I use ground beef, onion, sometimes pepper, spices (depends on what I’m in the mood for- maybe Italian, onion, garlic, maybe a Lipton onion soup packet), egg, ketchup, bread crumbs, some ketchup and Worcester on top after I form the loaf. |

McCormick’s spice packet, like for stew and pot roast.
Good, I’m gonna wing it with my meat loaf. Thanks, all. |
| Meatloaf? Like salt pepper garlic egg breadcrumbs hit-of-milk and parsley? Why would there be a packet? |
| I’ve never used a packet, but my mom makes a really good meatloaf with a lot more spices than have been mentioned in this thread. I just use her recipe that she’s tweaked over the years. The great thing about meatloaf is that it’s very forgiving; it can taste really good with minimal spices or with a more complex flavor profile. |

I tried many versions but once I made this one, I've never looked back. It turned my family into meatloaf lovers.

| Never a packet. There are tons of easy recipes. |
| I throw mine together with chopped onions, chopped green peppers, Italian breadcrumbs, regular breadcrumbs, and an egg. Glaze it with mix of ketchup and brown sugar. |

I made it and it was great! Thanks everyone.
It was from a recipe I found online where I had almost all the ingredients. Substituted panko for plain bread crumbs and one Vidalia onion for three yellow onions. Sautéed the onions, added tomato paste and worcestshire, then put with the meat, eggs, and panko crumbs. Shaped into a loaf shape on a flat pan. Much more fun to do it this way. Thanks everyone. |
