2 hour delay Friday Jan 7

Can’t believe they didn’t close

I think they're just postponing the decision. I say 50% chance they change it.

Why are school offices open on time on snow days? Do people at mcps not care if the admin secretaries, APs, or principals get to school safely?
Anonymous
this is a set up to make it look like they aren't sure

Half the time admin don't actually go in anyway, at least judging from the school I'm familiar with. Perhaps others do go in.

I bet they'll close by 5 a.m. (they just want to make few there a couple of flakes somewhere in the county).

Montgomery County Public Schools will open two hours late, Friday, Jan. 7, due to expected severe weather. Bus service will be provided on a two-hour delayed schedule. Morning prekindergarten, morning half-day Head Start, other morning half-day programs and field trips are canceled. Other activities and programs that begin at 10:30 a.m. or earlier are canceled. School and central administrative offices will be open on time. Daycare programs in school buildings will remain open as scheduled. MCPS will monitor conditions overnight and reassess this decision and report any changes by 5 a.m.

So why would MCPS make us wait until 5AM to make another decision when FCPS and other VA counties announced closures?

They were closed Wednesday and Thursday and we were not. Not sure we need to compare against VA schools for everything, every time.

People, current predictions are 2 inches snow. A two-hour delay is a more than generous allotment for that amount of “inclement weather.”

Just make school an app and be done with it already.

In normal times, absolutely. But with current staff shortages, I didn't think they'd have enough people to clear the school lots and sidewalks. Unless, despite the lack of announcement, more schools close tomorrow, which would allow them to focus on just those that are open? Or maybe not. Depending on what actually falls, perhaps they'll revise the announcement at 5am tomorrow! Anything is possible.

I am an admin and I need to be at school at 7am. Our team is always there on time, though the roads are indeed dangerous. Apparently our lives and our cars do not count.

G'night. Alarm set for 5am.

Are you new to MCPS?

New announcement at DC HS -- on 1/7 there will be a distro of covid tests to all students. Can't do that if school is closed.
