MCPS Superintendent Process

Now that the New Year is upon us, MCPS should be interviewing and releasing a list of finalists for the Super gig (based on the timeline they posted). Any idea who might be in the running (apart from Monifa)?

OP - Are you expecting transparency in the hiring process? Ha. This is MCPS. The MCEA will tell the Board of Education who the union wants and that will be the next Superintendent.

You see how Dr. McKnight supports any agenda pushed for by the union? For example - extra half days and no mandatory vaccinations. She even tried to buy the support of school administrators by giving them an extra 7 days of vacation. Who suffers? Students. There’s consideration for the impact on learning for less instructional time. There’s no consideration of the lack of planning for COVID testing for students and staff because Central Office was closed during winter break. Dr. McKnight is trying to buy the much needed union backing for the Superintendent job.

The Board of Education has a long history of being puppets for the MCEA as most of them were Apple Ballot candidates. There will be very little transparency in the hiring process. The MCEA will choose the next Superintendent.

I think your confused about what/where MCPS is and what Jack Smith did. He didn’t consider student interests at all- only teachers and his grandson in Maine. He blatantly lied about MCPS’s reopening plans, and it’s state of readiness. In the end, he only allowed MCPS to reopen because of a state order. McKnight isn’t much better, but she’s certainly better than Smith.

Unbelievable how much hero worship there is here for Jack Smith, who did NOTHING but pad his contract to receive benefits after he quit early (which he had done before - this never should have been allowed to happen). The man is retired and is not coming back. So please, let this one go, and hope we get a decent human being who cares about our kids and our teachers.

Completely agree. While I would have liked an earlier return to school last spring, he developed a clear plan and communicated that plan to everyone. We all knew what was coming and what to do. The current situation is frankly untenable.
