MCPS Superintendent Process

The man is retired and is not coming back. So please, let this one go, and hope we get a decent human being who cares about our kids and our teachers.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I would suggest that though that no one would be talking about the last Super if the current interim Super was actually doing a good job. And that’s the real problem right now.

You could ask. He wouldn't be able to bring back extended virtual if that's what you're seeking, though.

He navigated the pandemic well and stood up and balanced the best interest of students and teachers during the pandemic. Right now, it is a circus

I think your confused about what/where MCPS is and what Jack Smith did. He didn’t consider student interests at all- only teachers and his grandson in Maine. He blatantly lied about MCPS’s reopening plans, and it’s state of readiness. In the end, he only allowed MCPS to reopen because of a state order. McKnight isn’t much better, but she’s certainly better than Smith.

With due respect of your "opinion", it will be dillusional for you to think that MCPS parents will believe what you rant here anonymously. Dr. Smith did a wonderful job keeping everyone safe and we do not see any plan or transparent communication right now.

There is a plan that has been communicated. You just don’t like the plan. Maybe McKnight is lying and will try to close schools, and that would be very bad and nontransparent. But in the meantime we should hold her accountable to sticking to the plan.

In light of the changing impact of COVID, Dr. McKnight demonstrated a serious lack of leadership and planning for closing all administrative offices during winter break. MCPS needs the ability to change plans as the situation changes. Will there be adequate staff to cover duties tomorrow? Who knows because administrators have been on vacation.

Instead of doubling down on a seriously flawed and outdated plan, MCPS needs open minded leaders who are willing to report for duties and make decisions based on current data.

That requires better voters to replace the do-nothing BOE.

Completely agree. While I would have liked an earlier return to school last spring, he developed a clear plan and communicated that plan to everyone. We all knew what was coming and what to do. The current situation is frankly untenable.

Yeah, he developed a plan over the summer of 2020 and then yanked it and switched to all-virtual when MCEA complained. He was a complete joke.

Parents will be rejecting the Apple Ballot at the next election. We need Board members that care about educating students over the self interest of the union. We will never forget keeping students in virtual learning for 18 months, then rejecting a vaccine mandate, then advocating for bonuses, more half days, and more administrative days off.

Parents rejected the Apple Ballot in the last election, and yet people still complain.

That’s because Lynne Harris is the only Non-Apple candidate on the Board. The trend to reject the Apple Ballot needs to continue till they are all off the Board.

Damn her for not being able to see the future!

Then I'll make sure to vote against her. I support the Apple Ballot unlike the small minority of wacky posters on this board.

It’s more like Dr. McKnight should be blamed for prioritizing vacation during a predictable winter surge timed with a more contagious variant (known since November) and Thanksgiving and winter break travel and gatherings.

Honestly, that's not a great way to make decisions. Both Lynne Harris and Sunil Dasgupta were good candidates. One was endorsed by the Post, the other by MCEA. I would have been glad to have either of them on the board. Maybe Mr. Dasgupta will run again.

You are the voice of one. Parents will be voting against the Apple Ballot for the harm the union has done to students in MCPS. We need leadership to focus on the educational needs of students.

Will you be on the ballot? Because in the middle of this Omicron wave AND a significant snow storm you seem to be unwaveringly focused on BOE elections.
